It is horrible BUT lots of people don’t get a choice about going to work. If I refused to go to work tomorrow I can guarantee I would be disciplined and most probably sacked. Best case scenario they might pay me SSP.
Sorry but I find it a kick in the teeth that the club are probably paying him full wack to stay home and be safe despite yet the fact is he is probably in a safer environment than the vast majority of workers.
At this time football isn’t important. Nor is what I do (in my opinion). There are loads of jobs where people are being forced to work or face the consequences, many of which are not important.

What has what you or anyone else does have to do with Wes Thomas’s situation? He feels he needs to shield his family, his employer has accommodated that, and as far as we know, is happy to pay him. We should be pleased that the club we support is able to do that, not moan that our employers wouldn’t do it for us.

All football needs to be stopped immediately. If it's not safe to meet up with more than 1 person outside, it certainly isn't safe to come into extremely close contact with 22 (Inc the ref) others. It's madness that it hasn't already stopped.

As for Wes Thomas, I understand his concerns but it's a bit puzzling given he had covid in October. The evidence suggests he's extremely likely to be immune at the moment, due to being full of antibodies. I also had covid in October and NHS Blood and Transplant want my antibody rich plasma for trials on sick covid patients. I'm surprised it's him making this stand, rather than players who haven't been infected.

I fully understand Wes Thomas’s situation and like everyone else he is human and will be wanting to do what’s best for himself and his family.

This is where leadership is now needed within in the game. Testing for all teams should be mandatory before any game at all elite levels as a bare minimum.

Likewise before Saturday the season should be mothballed for at least a month. It’s non sensical that we are in a situation worse than the first peak and footballers are going all over the country to play a game of football. It’s not worth it.

A month winter break would mean the season would need to be extended by a month to the end of June like last year. It might help with revenue as well as fans might be allowed in stadiums again by then.

Agreed. Good post. I saw that on Tuesday Darlington travelled to Brackley, a round trip of 400 miles for an evening game. The message is stay at home, but for some reason sport seems to think it is an exception.

When I couldn't go to work due to covid and before I was able to work from home then I was on furlough so he would surely get that if Notts weren't paying him which I'm sure they are anyway. His job isn't needed as a key worker to keep the country going and if he's had kidney issues then fair enough. This season should just be scrapped at our level.

Of course Thomas has to put his family first, and I totally understand and support his decision to do so. It just highlights how ridiculous it has become trying to finish the season during an unprecedented pandemic. As much as I would missing watching the streams (when we actually play), I say scrap the season.

On a related point, anyone know why there are more postponements the lower down the leagues you go? I don't think Forest have had a single game called off, but we've had over a third of ours postponed.

The further you go down the leagues the smaller the squads become, for many teams at our level 2 or 3 players missing is a disaster at Prem or Championship level s they just call up a few of the 30 or 40 they have in reserve. I agree scrap the season it's quickly turning into a farce.

I can only assume he has someone at home that has other health issues that we don't know about.

Otherwise he needs reminding that there are 1000's of people everyday putting their lives on the line to help others and all he has to do is kick a bag of air around a field!!!
