What about bands you thought were brilliant, then crap and then brilliant again??

ABBA for me. Loved them as a kid, thought they were naff and crap when at college and beyond, now love them again. Great vox, melodies and arrangement. And costumes

It's an excellent opening track in 'The Departed' film.
There's also a good back story behind the writing and the recording of the song.

As far as the original topic goes, I never liked Pink Floyd when I was a youngster preferring Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zep and the much heavier stuff at the time but have come to appreciate them now.
I’m a huge fan of Dropkick Murphys. They have a track on that soundtrack. shipping’ out to Boston.

Plays when DiCaprio is in jail.

That’s because they improved their English

Early songs were “pop speak” with limited lyrics. Then as they got practiced at the English language the song lyrics got a whole lot better.

Songs also became deeper and more atmospheric rather than boom boom disco. Songs like “they day before you came” for example

Martin Scorsese Definitely loves Gimme Shelter. As well as The Departed it’s in Goodfellas and Casino.

    All 3 are great films.

He is obviously a fan and he’s also used other Stones songs in his films. In fact there’s “Let it Loose” later in The Departed. I reckon he would’ve used Gimme Shelter in The Irishman but it’s set in the 50’s so it wouldn’t look/sound right!!

Obviously Nicholson steals the show and it’s full of A-list actors but I like Ray Winstone's character Mr French (not the accent) in the film

Merry Clayton's own version of the track is also pretty good.

Loved the early Queen albums. Went off them late seventies. Got back into them mid-eighties.
