I disagree rA. The resources to treat couch potato and lifestyle issues such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart problems, liver failure, lung cancer, addiction therapies must dwarf the resources need for sporting injuries.

The former are largely "rest of life" treatments, whereas I don't think the same is true of sports related issues by and large.

But the key here is the offset effect of sports participation etc on NHS costs - improved cardiovascular conditions stemming from an active lifestyle will reduce the need to treat heart failure etc and reduce obesity related considerations. A good trade off I reckon

You, and Ram, may well be correct, GP. Difficult to know for sure without doing research which, even in the current circumstances, I haven’t got the inclination to do.

Maybe not quite as cut and dried as active (= good...less of a demand) v indolent (= bad...more of a demand) might suggest though.

P.S. Have you seen Kenny Burns or even John Barnes recently?

On top of the UK (Kent) variant, the South African variant and the Brazil variant...all named after the places they were originally identified...a new variant was diagnosed yesterday, in Bavaria. Guess what...it’s identified as the ‘German variant’. Seems logical.
Hmmmmm.... yet another strain of the virus named after a beer

Maybe they should have called it the Bavariant

No I'm not happy, German variant is different to 'the German Virus'.

Maybe I'm being over sensitive, but Trump was hammered for calling it the 'China virus' and imagine that if any of the UK ministers had first come out with such a description, then they would have been widely criticised for being xenophobic and criticising other countries for 1 variant amongst over a 1,000 others of a virus originating elsewhere.

I'm fully in favour of carrying National ID cards, but your civil liberties groups, amongst others would fight it all the way. Although there is a common ID scheme in the EU, it is not mandatory throughout the EU.

I doubt very much that sports injuries carry the same burden as smokers and the like, on the NHS. In fact all sports injuries account for only around 2% of all A&E admissions, which in itself is only a small department of the NHS, when you consider further admissions for some cancers and other illnesses which are preventable.

What does get to me regarding the BAME groups, is that representatives from these groups demand that the government does something, to help their people who are suffering higher casualty figures. Maybe it should be pointed out that the government has done a few things to help, like telling people to socially distance and to wear face masks, which they seem reluctant to do and now the government are supplying us with a vaccine, which again they are reluctant to take, but the government really should do something to help them.
I think your stereotyping to a great degree here, its bit like implying all white football supporters are hooligans. Neither have I seen any data which suggests BAME are less likely to wear masks, plenty of anecdotal evidence on here of course/

Anyway whislt we ahve SOME BAME groups worrying about whats in the vaccine, we ahve SOME 80 year old plus white people saying they will wait for the "British" vaccine FFS! Shame the Oxford AstraZeneca isn't actually "British" but there we are, some folks do have strange oideas!
