In no way does that absolve him from blame though, significant errors have been made.

But no one should underestimate the underlying social issues which have existed for decades which have created an environment where the impact of these errors has been multiplied.

Years of austerity, red tape in our heathcare system, social inequality, and lack of foresight combined with the obvious distraction of Brexit, have compounded the errors made by this government.

The root causes of a number of the 100,000 deaths go back an awful lot further than Covid 19.

We really need to ensure these are not just hung on the errors of the past year. Or we will have learnt nothing.
