You have almost got it ,well a million miles away.
It was used in India maybe 7000 years ago,
The six-pointed star is composed of two equilateral triangles. The triangle pointing upward represents action, or the outward flow of energy through selfless service to humanity. The triangle pointing downward represents knowledge, the inward search for spiritual realization. When in your life you have these two aspect in your life, then you have a balanced life. I think all politicians need this -right.
There are other thoughts about this symbol but I believe this to be the true meaning, here is a false meaning :
Due to the fact that triangles contain three corners and three sides they are often linked to different trinities. The most common being that of the Christian faith, the holy trinity- father, son and Holy Ghost. The triangle can also symbolize the stages of the moon- waxing, waning and full. Other trinities include: mind, body & spirit; mother, father & child; past, present & future; mother, maiden & crone; thought, feeling & emotion and creation, preservation and destruction
and another:
''When they are superimposed as you have drawn them and pointing upward they represent alchemy of air, imagination, spirituality.''
It is a Norse thing, I am of Norse origin.
''The triangle symbol is a simple one, but is also one with a great amount of meaning behind it.''
