Ugly win but that's a lot better than the ugly defeat of Tuesday.
Defence totally dominant, wing backs did push up, we competed further up the pitch.
Crosses were for the most part poor, we huffed and puffed, didn't string much together and we're for the most part a poor looking team.
Still, Ardley did change things and deserves credit for getting it right today.
Just looked him up to see if he's still in the game. He was caretaker at Grimsby earlier this season between Ian Holloway and Paul Hurst. He might be getting another go there soon enough.
An opportunity to break our away clean sheet record on Tuesday at Boreham Wood who've failed to score in 4 of their 11 home games.
Not the greatest performance but a step up from Tuesday, a confidence booster and a goal from a defender. However, credit where credit is due, Neil did change things drastically in personnel and formation.
That pretty much sums it up. If Slater and Stallard did say we had only really played well in 6 games (25%) this season, we have to take what we can get and enjoy it to the max. It hardly suggests we are a promotion team, but if we are remembered as 'the worst promotion team in Notts County history', I could live with that.
On the subject of 'if he's still in the game', while I was watching the scores come in I couldn't help but notice the name Ellison on the scoresheet for Newport at Morecambe. My first thought was that it was ironic that someone called Ellison had scored against Morecambe, because Kevin Ellison was a legend for them, and he always played well and often scored against us. After a bit of research I was amazed to find out it was the same bloke! Kevin Ellison now plays as a striker for Newport in League Two at 42 years of age!!!
There's a video doing the rounds of Ellison scoring and celebrating in the face of his ex-manager who by all accounts didn't treat him very well. Very entertaining.
Born in the 1970s!!!
He played for Rotherham against us in that crucial promotion clash towards the end of the Munto season (when the Millers supporter ran on to the pitch in an attempt to get to Lee Hughes and twice fell over before being apprehended by the stewards).
He's a touch younger than Dannie Bulman who's now with Crawley Town and most recently came on as a sub at Bolton in January. Bulman has played against us when Mark Stallard was in our team and also lined up against a Notts side that included Chris Fairclough and Gary Owers.
Boreham Wood 0 - 0 Torquay Utd.
Good result that. Hopefully we can go two points better than Torquay there on Tuesday. COYP!
I was just about to say the same. Probably a good result for us, because we gain points on both.
