Or Ardley changed tactics slightly and the players got their fingers out. Either that or the only other possible explanation is the players have taken over the team and Ardley and Abbott can only speak if they put their hand up then name the 1894 FA cup winning team.

    You dont.
You sack the manager and replace him with one that is paid to manage.
The lunatics have taken over the asylum..
One for you laddo , an eighties classic....name that band.

Whilst Cal Roberts is injured I believed it to be a formation that just about our whole squad would be comfortable in. Even Turner wouldn’t be exposed with 2 other CB’s with him.
Many on here had bemoaned the fact that players were not playing in their favoured positions. Playing a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with one natural winger made us unbalanced. So the change in tactics seemed sensible. We got a solid if unspectacular performance.
Let’s see what happens Tuesday with selections and formations.
Certainly food for thought as you say let see what Tuesday reveals.
For me it's a please let's not return to the tippy tappy stuff that only gets us into trouble..

Given the timing of this apparent tactical about turn, it does really suggest two possible reasons. Firstly, the players have told Ardley that his tippy-tappy style is failing. Second, Ardley himself has decided that his tippy-tappy style is failing. Neither option reflects well on him. I suppose you could decide that he would have done it anyway, or that he thought it was the best approach with the players he had, but that's stretching things for me.

That's really easy to answer, you don't sack any of the players. If the players are now managing the club, you sack the manager.

When results were going well earlier this season and for periods last season his adopted style could easily be have said to be working and no players meeting would be needed. You don't need to change your style during the good times.

It looks like he has decided to change the style now because it really hasn't been working recently. I hope the senior players have fed back the dressing rooms thoughts.

The results tell the players and manager that it's not been working simple as that. Performances have got worse and worse and the downturn in results have illustrated this.

Sorry Elite I've mislead you there it wasn't a serious question unless of course you truly believe that the players are now managing the club as Pedro suggests? I don't , I assumed that was just a cheeky tongue in cheek suggestion.

I believe player only meetings are common in football when a dramatic slump in form needs addressing.

This is interesting, pre-Wealstone but worth a watch.

No, I don't think the players are managing the club, but I do think Ardley is failing to stamp any sort of leadership and authority on the management position. I think his low confidence and sense of uncertainty has transmitted to the players.

I hope the Halifax game was a wake-up call to both manager and players, because there are still enough games left to salvage the season.

I think he changed the tactics because confidence is shot, you can’t play a passing game with no confidence. TBF to Ardley he signed Effiong to give us a different option and we have gone direct before within games. He’s gone 352 before, I suspect our weakness at left back made it a lot easier decision too.

Definitely credit to him for doing what needed to be done to take 3pts from that away game when confidence/spirit was shot to pieces. How much of it was him and how much was from the players, we will probably never know. But credit to him anyway.

What's crucial now is not to mistake the formula needed to win that specific game in those particular circumstances with what's needed to get the best out of our remaining 20 games.

If they think a team packed with size, 3 Centre backs, 2 fill-in "wing backs'' is going to maximise our haul from the 60pts remaining to play for, then I'd say they are very badly mistaken.

It will be interesting to see what tactics are used on Tuesday.
