This is a bit of a non-point. The NHS is a state delivered service and the science has been heavily funded and supported by the government. Of course they should get a piece of that credit.

SAGE advice is scientific advice around one particular matter. The government response will be based on a number of different parables. If you judge a governments performance solely on whether it took advice or not from one particular group, that's a little futile in my opinion. A government performance during a pandemic is measured by loads of parables; deaths, morbidity, cancer performance, how it supports people through the pandemic, how quickly you can get back to 'normal', education etc. Heck, given the cost will be put over 30/40 years, someone has to think about how that impacts the quality of life for decades to come. it's nearly impossible to judge the whole package based on one decision.
