Same here, I often turn off commentary.

I find that after 50 years of watching football I don’t need telling when it’s a corner or a throw in!

Richie Benaud the cricket commentator was the absolute genius at reading a situation, when he first got into commentary and old stager told him the art of commentary was knowing when to shut up.

If often watch old clips of test cricket from the 70’s and 80’s and you’d be amazed at Richie’s style.......he could sometimes go three or four minutes saying absolutely nothing because the play was so intense and compelling.

Michael Parkinson said the same about the chat show host, the best ones ( like him ) often sit there for ages saying nothing.....the art is to ask the right lead in question and let the guest just roll with it.
