And the short time frame between games as just exacerbated this...

I did wonder earlier in the season, why, when we had worked so hard in games to win the ball back, did we then quickly play it forward instead of keeping it for a little while and get our breath back.
The only reason I could think of, and still do, is that PW wants what he will term as our extra fitness to kick in and make sure that our opponents, whoever they are, dont get any time on the ball either, so when we get the ball their defenders cant switch off because it's coming forward, and when they do win the ball back, we are hunting the ball down again straight away so they cant really switch off and take a breather either.
Even allowing for defeat yesterday, we have another massive game on sunday, when a well rested brum come to town, and again, if we win we get to within 3 points of brum, with 2 games in hand, so hopefully PW and the management team can lift the boys for another massive effort, all is far from lost just yet regardless of that defeat yesterday UTM

Shows our inconsistency. Credit where it's due when we play well. Critism when we are poor.

Yes fickle fans perhaps but it's not the defeat it's the manner of the defeat

I agree. Its not over yet. If we beat Brum we will still be in with a great chance of staying up. I can see us getting a couple more wins then so if we do shunt be too far off the 50 mark. Our GD could still keep us up as well. The viking helped us keep the score down yesterday.

I still think it will go to the last couple of games for us at least.

Theres at least bits of truth in most things people have said, positives and negatives.

    1. The players aren't good enough. I think that most tables show that 'you get what you pay for' and the direct link between pay and position. I think that our players collectively aren't strong enough for championship football when compared like for like to other squads. I'm talking about the basics such as passing ability, intelligent off the ball movement, and taking opportunities to pass/score when they arise. Even basic crossing without Barlaser has been very poor seeing as this is our main attacking weapon.

    2. Good/bad manager. In light of the above, Warne quite frequently gets the squad to play above themselves and has got some very good results ove rthe season against teams with collectively much more quality than us. However, there is a relience for this to happen for the opposition to either play badly or take their eye off the ball. QPR being the latest good example of that, going ahead and then, thinking it was comfortable, appearing to relax and allowed us to come back and punish them. Credit to all concerned we did this with applomb as we have done several times. But very few times that I can think of have we outplayed a motivated team and beaten them by sheer quality. I don't think we have it. But Warne can organise them and motivate them well to compensate and make the most of opportunities to take advantage when they arise. However, clearly we are found wanting too often, I think that is mainly due to the squad quality but I think Warne has to take some responsibility for that also, especially for poor shows against the lower teams when the squad quality factor is much less obvious. This has been his real failing for me

    3. Tiredness. This will of course be partly a factor last night and very hard for us punters to feel what it is like playing games this close together. But we also failed to turn up in other key games such as Wycombe, Coventry away etc with no such excuse so it is hard to guage the extent of tiredness on last night's performance.

As people have said, much still to play for. I'd be surprised if we make it with the above in mind but there is no telling what our collective spirit can do, and we may see a very different team vs Brum and other games. Whatever happens, proud to be a Miller and am supporting Warne to stay in whatever division as not sure we can get better in our pay levels. In light of the previous 20 years, the last 7 at NYS, though I rarely get chance to go, have been a joy. UTM

I can only agree, hit the nail on the head.

As for criticism of PW, I, like many others, have criticised team selections on occasions and how we have attempted with futility to win some games. The thing that bugs me the most is when we lose it is automatically 'we didn't show desire' , 'heart wasn't in it', 'we didn't want it enough'. Just such a simplistic way to look at things. If motivation was everything, as some seem to think it is, then the local pub side would be in the Premier League. We need to play nearer to a 100% game than other teams. Our drop off in percent and ability to still get a result is narrower than others. Norwich and Watford can play probably 70% and still win most games because they have the quality. It is unbelievably hard to maintain close to perfection with what a season brings. It doesn't happen.
