He's had a good season for us but England? Good luck to the lad but I don't think that he is of the quality required. We need to cash in while his stock is at its highest and bring Plalmer back from Lincoln as our number one. Apparently, he's had an excellent season and I personally think that it is the one position that you can compare, no matter what division they are playing in.

England have some very average keepers at the moment. I always thought Nick Pope was the best of the bunch. But in the recent international he looked so uncomfortable playing the ball out rather than hoofing it up field as he does with Burnley. Pickford doesn’t inspire at all and is prone to error. Johnstone is as probably as good as any .... will help push his value up at any rate ....

I've been critical of Sam in the past especially his commanding of the area, but he's been excellent this season. It could've been a lot more embarrassing this season without his input.
Yes, he made a mistake against against Leeds, but I think you are a bit blinkered to think he hasn't been one of the few better performers this season.

What many do not realise is keepers today face a totally different ball to that of a few years ago. The light weight ball of today’s game swerves and dips like never before. It is now difficult for keepers to judge the flight of the ball. Keepers rarely catch when at full stretch because of the the nature of today’s footballs manufacture.

When I finished playing at 42ish, due to injury. I was by then playing at the third level of our league system (for an appalling side to be fair. Triers they were but that was the beginning and end of it). Anyway, the difference in weight of the ball had changed dramatically, even then the balls swerved and dipped like never before. Now, training with the grandkids, their footballs are so light it beggars belief and they are regulation size and weight.

I don’t see many keepers coming for crosses and catching one handed f at all like Pat Jennings etc. just like you do not see many keepers, going down at the feet of an attacker on a one to one, they now stand big, narrow the angle and hope, as going down at feet will most likely lead to a penalty when the stricker leaves a trailing foot to cheat a penalty.

So all in all well done Sam Johnston’s, your a Baggie so you got my support and good luck to you if get the call up.

Crazy how he gets such targeted criticism from some of our fans despite being one of the best keepers in the league this season. Limited in what he can do, sure, but he's played excellently and developed. He's performed beyond expectation.

It's a hard role being a keeper in the modern era, being more than just a shot stopper and he's been in the top 5 in the league all season in a relegated side.

It's a fine achievement for him and fully deserved.

I think the targeted criticism is directed at the two weaknesses in his game, namely command of the box and his distribution. I believe that he is probably the best shot stopper in the league, mind you, he gets enough practice behind our defence!

I think that England have a huge pool of talent in the outfield positions but our achilles heel is the goalkeeper. I don't see anyone at the moment who could lace the boots of the likes of Banks, Shilton, Seaman etc.

Funnily enough, I think his distribution is his strength.

His shot stopping is bang average for me. He pulls off the odd worldy but then he has been at fault for a couple of long range shots this season which he should have saved.

And the command of his box is terrible.

As others have said, there is a dearth of English keepers at the moment so he probably has done enough to be a squad player for England.

Anything £10m+ and I would sell him and bring Palmer in
