    Phil Mickelson.

What a fantastic golf tournament the PGA was and wonderful to see this almost 51 year old genius become the oldest man ever to win a major.

I don’t play golf, I tried it but was just horrible at it but I do enjoy watching the four major tournaments.

My late dad who died in 2003 loved Mickelson, maybe it’s the artistry of the left handed that makes him such a compelling watch.

He’ll be around for a few years yet.

One for all us oldies to appreciate 😎

I think it's more a pastime than a sport, like dart's and card's. Probably much more fun to play than watch. Watching grown men trying to knock a ball in a hole doesn't set my pulse racing.
I don't like any track or field events or motor racing.
Football, Boxing and Rugby are the only sports I watch.
    But each to their own.

Pastime rather than a sport? You must be joking.

These guys practice for hours every day, including before and after most rounds. They spend hours on end in the gym and being coached.

The margins between winning and losing are very small and you need things to fall for you as well. A bad bounce here or there, being drawn out to play in the worst of the weather, a putt that lips out etc etc.

Sport for me has to be competitive. Golf is still one of the most sporting and honest sports that there is as well as competitive. The skills and mental strength needed to win are unimaginable to those with no interest in the game.

You couldn't possibly call a Golfer an athlete anymore than you would have called Jocky Wilson one.
At least Jocky didn't dress like Rupert the Bear.
    Golfers going to a Gym.😂
They don't even carry their own stuff.

Probably the hardest sport of all to play well and consistently. I enjoyed trying to play it but I never knew where the next shot was gonna go. I would hit a good shot, sometimes a great shot, then ten complete loads of cr*p. These professionals are fit because the amount of miles they walk during a tournament is unbelievable.

This almost 51 year old bloke hit his tee shot 366 yards on the 17th hole, further than anyone else during the tournament, a testament to his strength and fitness.

Jocky Wilson only had to lob an object weighing a couple of ounces eight feet🤣🤣

The strength and skill needed to be a top level golfer is now extremely high, the days when a little fat bloke could rock up an compete are long gone.

But feel free to give it a try Des.

Agree JD. I walk 8km in every round, possibly because I traverse the course more than walk in a straight line! It is a great way of getting fresh air and exercise at the same time.

You will be telling me bowls is a sport next.
Golf courses have ruined a lot of English countryside, just for a few hoity toities to discuss business and have a few brandies in their snobby clubs.
I will concede that some of them are nimble though, you should have seen how quickly they can move when I used to gallop the horse over Penn Common.

I would quit if I were you before you make yourself look really silly!

Mickelson is healthier, fitter and stronger than he was 15 years ago. Not many footballers of the same age can say that. Most sportsmen play golf yet non of them can make it on the second tier of golf let alone the main tours. Many have had careers in both cricket and football but not golf and cricket or golf and football as far as I am aware, including the senior tours.

Most golf courses provide fantastic habitat for wildlife and most, if not all, incorporate providing conditions for wildlife within their plans. We have seen deer, birds of prey of all sorts, pheasants, stoats, weasels, squirrels, wild duck of many species and even black swans, over the last month or so.

And I won’t even bother explaining that most of our senior players are retirees from the local factories, and am not aware of any that are what you describe as hoist toities!

Totally agree Yarm, most courses are nowhere near the image that 1955 is portraying. Ours is a lovely club and by accepting me as a member is just shows you what sort of riff raff they accept! Also bowls is a very skilful game and has a great social side with it. Maybe if kids these days got off their backsides and tried these two sports, the world might be a better place.
