This thread started off being about Sutton United FC, but as night follows day it's inevitable it will end up being about Neal Ardley#viva

Infatuated? Obsessed? Living in the past? Nah don't be silly

Ardley was a decent man who left this club with dignity and respect. Yes, I thought he was THE MAN to sort out our club and get us back in the league.
Elite is one of the posters I respect and it troubled me that despite my views on Ardley, Elite was insistent that we were going nowhere under his stewardship.
In the end, Ardleym had to go but who was chosen for his replacement shocked and disappointed me. However, it would seem that the Danish guys know their bacon. I doubt we'll get through in the playoffs but i still look forward with optimism to 2021-22.

Its relevant Laddo, because even tho we are congratulating sutton on their promotion, one then has to ask how they have achieved this on minimal budget and resources compared to Notts

The answer or large reason for Notts failure at this level ( not to mention the relegation that your so keen to forget)was down to Ardleys incompetence , and his poor style of defensive play that allowed poor teams to beat us regulary.

Both the current owners, and Hardy, gave Ardley every chance to be competitive on the the field , by backing him heavily,. Interesting question for you, over his time at the club, how many of his own players did Ardley bring in, yet he still could not sort it out

Putting financial responsibilities to one side as you know one of the key responsibilities of an owner is recruiting the right manager. Hardy hand selected and appointed Ardley.

Alan gambled (the club, his finances, his businesses) and it backfired horribly#toxiccircus

    Owner>Manager>Players
    You already admitted this before
You were asked if you hired an electrician that was incompetent, who would you blame, yourself, or the electrician, you said the electrician, so i rest my case

I second that, its a big ask in the playoffs, but we are on a run, so its certainly possible, its the belief to win, and how we set up that matters (that is why i never liked the defensive and respect the point approach, because its negative, and invites other teams onto to us )
But i look forward with optimism , now we have seen what IB can do, in the relatively short time he has been here, i am much more confident about our future, once IB brings in some of his own players, i think Notts will be a much stronger outfit next season, Sutton Utd have shown the way, get most of your points from poor to mid table teams

    Agree with this.
IB Inherited a faltering stuttering boring and negatively focused team.. To turn that all around and ultimately gain promotion in such a short space of time would be a miracle.
If he doesn't, I look forward to next season and cant wait to see what IB achieves with a full pre season and a sprinkling of new signings that he thinks will improve the squad and his favoured style of play.

People really shouldn't be that surprised by Sutton. They boast two of the most threatening attacking midfielders in the league in Beautyman and Olaofe, the latter being a very good loan from Millwall.

Olaofe is a player I would have liked to see at Notts, still young and far from the finished article but with a very big future ahead of him. One of the few left wingers to run DKE ragged this season. They also have a very good back room team, especially in the performance analysis department who managed to work out early on in the season exactly who and what they needed to be successful.

Fair play to them, they fully deserved their promotion and the plaudits that come with it, but the irony isn't lost on me that we did the double over them!

I don't know the answer to that question.

So on that basis the likes of Chesterfield, Wrexham, Stockport, Hartlepool, Yeovil etc also need to be asking how they let little Sutton deservedly win the title? Right?

By the same token , last season little Barrow and little Harrogate they outshone Notts and Ardley but moreso the other clubs and managers with bigger financial resources. That's 3 examples for you right there, you need to be a well run club first and foremost not the laughing stock of the entire football league as we were that season.

Doesn't it prove that it's not all about the size of wallet and how much you back managers. Didn't do us much good under your buddy Me Hardy's reign. You can get promoted if you are well run club with a good manager right?

Recently you mentioned the turning point in your mate Hardy's tenure was the oh so harsh officiating in the play off semi final. Can I suggest to you the bigger turning points were when he sacked Nolan? Or Kewell or more than both of those perhaps appointed Ardley? The "worst manager in Notts history" according to DavyFacts

Think about that for a little while before replying.

Not this old chestnut again, you would blame the electrician and you would sue the company that employed such an incompetent electrician.

    It's all about recruitment

Couldn't agree more and very much doubt I could have said it better myself.
