If I recall correctly Flo Hoti was a player that Asghar had been tracking for some time.
An Asghar signing. Many on here questioned the signing at the time because what we needed was a midfielder who WAS Premiership ready. Hoti may turn out to be great, we'll have to wait and see, but the point really is that he wasn't what we needed at the time. Certainly we got Jeando (who by the way has also been scouted and bought to fit the model) and he's been good.

I'm purely guessing about MM's Premiership ready comments, but if he was pi55ed off about getting Hoti when what he needed was a creative mid he himself had identified you could definitely put 2 and 2 together and see his comment as a dig at TA which none of the support would have noticed at the time.

For what it's worth I'd be happy if Mulgrew signed for us but a 2 year deal is questionable to say the least. A 1 Yr deal with another year extension depending on how the 1st Yr goes would be more ideal.

I never said I was happy but I do think the reaction has now become a bit over the top

I am concerned as its a risk to appoint someone unknown with not lots of experience but I'd rather it to someone like yogi, ideally I want the safest low risk option that will guarantee good finishes etc and that's McInnes, really hoping that is still a possibility

What I would add is, they got the appointment of Mellon right, he came in and we finished comfortable, with the majority opinion being that we'd have preferred MM stayed, that's the guy the current guys hired

So maybe they will get it right again, even if it's not the obvious choice we'd prefer

Yeah think hoti was bought for the future or at least hoping he is going to be good enough.Yeah think I am getting what you mean now about players not being technically good enough to go straight into the team but utd looking to get money back for them when or if they progress I agree totally think that is part of the model bring in guys like hoti and fuches edwards get a couple of seasons out of them then hopefully sell them on for a profit as well as bringing on youngsters and hopefully getting few seasons out of them then sell on for a profit.I know that some now think we are just going to play a team of youngsters and try to sell them all every transfer window but really don't think that is the plan.

I actually think playing alongside Edwards, Reynolds has been pretty steady.

I hate this notion.... 'when he plays alongside whoever he' s decent'. Kenneth had it for years alongside Webster. Robson gets it as well. Can we no just sign guys who are good at their job regardless of who they play beside?

United looking to sign Luke McCowan from Ayr apparently. Looks a promising kid.

Reynolds has been good at his job for us since he arrived, regardless of who he played beside, but formed better partnership with Watson and Edwards overall, still did fine beside Connolly or Butch

Butcher, limited technically, gives up possession easily. But kept Powers out of the side.

But to that add King, resigning Clark Pawlett Connolly, all players lacking in technical ability.

Go back and watch the St Johnstone v Hibs Final and watch how St Johnstone's midfield players hold the ball and wait for the right pass. We may have matched them reasonably well in our head to head games but that's because of our work rate and ability to scrap with them. Our goalkeeper and back 4. If we want top 6 and challenging for cups we need to be recruiting better experienced technical players to blend with the young players breaking through.

Mulgrew maybe will fit that bill, if he's fit, but a two year deal for a player that age is crazy.
i disagree to an extent about your technical ability culprits as Clark must have something about him to make top scorer, i dont think a player like Pawlett losses his ability just because his legs cant catch up any more, but i have no defence for Connolly!

On Mulgrew, i think a job share with Reynolds might have been the answer!

But every team sometimes needs the pillars of strength to build around and talk people through the game. And its brought into focus when its generally accepted that the team has performed better with Reynolds partnered with Edwards and in the past, Watson. Personally think that when Connolly in the team, other players are playing with one eye looking at Connolly to see what hes up to which detracts from their own game.

certainly strong rumours hes coming to us as part of the Benji deal mate
