I had assumed that theses vaccines work, but with all this talk of third waves and extending the lockdown you really have to wonder.

They are proven to be effective but if another stronger variant comes along - who knows!

Makes you laugh when it’s still strict on wearing a mask into a little shop yet 15000 or so Chelsea and Man City supporters were all allowed to go to Portugal with almost no social distancing and here comes the Euros!

    The inconsistencies are staggering!

Apparently these vaccines do work Phil as 99.5% of people in hospital with Covid have not had the vaccine.

    1. This is not necessarily about you and your personal risk but about those you may infect when, not if, you get it.
    2. There are a lot of immuno-compromised people who cannot take the vaccine for whom Covid is a very real threat and you are unnecessarily putting them at risk
    3. The doctors and nurses treating all these covid cases are exhausted and the fewer people who continue to get this disease the better it is for them because they badly need a break.
    4. The only people in hospital right now with covid got it because they had not been vaccinated.
    5. The hospitals need to get back to normal so that a lot of the postponed treatments and surgeries can take place but they can't if unvaccinated people keep getting it and are hospitalized.
    6. Why would anyone rational deliberately take any of these risks when there are effective and safe vaccines now available?
    7. So not getting vaccinated is pretty anti-social.
    8. I actually take no delight in the thought of you or your loved ones dying an agonizing death gasping for air like like an un-clubbed fish in the bottom of fishing boat - my wife has seen people die from this and its a very horrible way to die
    9. I want to go to football matches again and the longer it takes everyone to get vaccinated, the longer it will be before we can do that unhindered again.
Spot on Calgary, for my 2 penneth if you refuse the jab on anything but genuine doctors advice then you should be banned from mixing in society, your choice! However the risk of some anti vaxer imbecile catching it and spreading it to some genuinely vulnerable person is genuine hence sorry mate stay locked in your bunker...

The main objective is to stop people getting really sick and needing hospital treatment and dying.
Reducing transmissibility was always a bonus, and figures show that it does.
The numbers of infected people are increasing yes but they don’t expect this to be carried forward to admissions.

Thats for those who take the jab of course, the rest can take their chances and hope their Vitamin D levels are ok

I visit my mom in a nursing home weekly, and every time I visit I have a Covid test, throat nose and temperature.
I have to wait half an hour before being admitted.
I have no problem with that, but on entry i have to sign three papers, use hand gel, wear a mask, wear an apron and wear plastic gloves, they then ask me if I would like a cup of tea and some biscuits lol.
A mask doesn't stop you getting Covid, just passing it on to someone else. But if there is no Covid in the home and l have been tested clear, why all the protection?
    Some rules don't make sense.

It’s because not all of the protections are perfect. The vaccine doesn’t totally stop transmission and lateral flow tests are renowned as being the bronze standard of tests and can be 50% accurate in certain conditions. The idea of them is to whittle out positives but it’s in no way full proof.

There was a great article on BBC news referring to protections in place as like Swiss cheese. All of them have holes in but if you add them together they make the whole package of protection close to 100%.
