Mellon was unsettled up here, don't think the pandemic made things easier. United board were like the fans, happy with the results, disappointed with the performances. This saved United money from sacking Mellon and made it easier to go back to Tranmere since there would be no compensation.

When Mellon came in, Courts was always the long term plan as the replacement manager (hence all the rumours since MM left), but was never the plan for it to be this early. Will be another manager in and when/if that manager leaves in 2-3 years then Courts will take over.
Also to add, there is no 'outstanding' candidate, its quite open at the moment. Wouldn't surprise me if there is a surprise appointment (I don't mean inexperienced like Courts, I mean a guy that hasn't been talked about much, or at all)
That's what I said. Didn't realise I made any predictions. Only thing I said was a week ago there was no 'outstanding' candidate. The fact (lol) we haven't appointed anyone yet probably says that was/is the case

Hearsay again, but what I was told is that certain members of the board weren't happy with the way he was reneging against the development strategy and wanting to do things his way. This eventually cost him his job. The writing had been on the wall for a while and it was a matter of getting the season finished and he was gone. He clearly wasn't happy towards the end of the season, his body language said as much, so its suited all parties in the end.
I dont think Micky had any intention of going back to Tranmere until it was clear that his position here was beyond help. Its funny though that MM was apparently wanting to fill the squad with players in their late 20s, which creates the best platform for the youngsters, and the board seemingly wants those youngsters put in the shop window.

The next appointment has to be right, the balance of the squad must be right across the pitch and age range, and sell when the time is right, and i have no confidence this will happen!

    You also posted this.

"Courts might not be officially on the coaching team, but would be learning from the manager behind the scenes. That is what was happening with Mellon."

Let's not let the facts get in the way of a good story though.

Has a manager been appointed yet? Did I say that was happening within a couple of days?
