Just stick to football its what the fans have paid for. They have not paid so they can be lectured and patronised.

Southgate is no doubt spouting all this stuff because he feels under pressure to do so.

I think it’ll become par for the course for the top people at sports teams in the U.K. to convince at interview time that they’ll get on board fully with whatever cause celebre is deemed necessary.

Back in the day if anyone in Sunday football made a racist comment to one of our team it’d be treated with a punch in the gob and everyone wading in to aid their team mate, I’d much have preferred to see Anton Ferdinand smack the racist John Terry in the mouth than have to suffer the mealy mouthed response by the FA.

The Ferdinand documentary a couple of weeks ago was a really interesting watch.

All you can hope to do is keep your own house in order, Southgate’s job is to lay down the law to his squad on racism and hope that leading by example rubs off.

I was watching Albion from the early 70’s and for anyone wearing rose tinted specs I can assure you our fans were as racist and homophobic as any other fans.

Chanting at Luther Blissett.......”Zigger zagger zigger, Blissett is a n****r” and to Elton John at the same match......”Elton John and his homo***uals”......I’d like to bet there’s a few on here who remember that night!?

I’m not saying life is perfect but I can’t remember the last time I heard any racist comment or booing of a black player at our place or at 99% of other grounds.

Football in general is a million miles away from what it was 30-40 years ago.
