I like Butcher, but if we want to progress next season and beyond, we need better for his position. Saying that, there was a game where Fuchs anchored the midfield and Butcher had a better game with not having to sit in front of the defence.

Maybe its a sign we don't rate him enough. Yes he might not be in our strongest 11 next season. But in reality you need at least 2 players for every position to get through a season. I hope he just sees out his contract with us.

He was a pivotal part of the team that won the championship and I would be happy to keep him in the squad unless we were getting an upgrade. If Hearts are offering cash, then I think he will go. Either way, I would be happy...he has done his best for the club and should be respected for that!

In the two years he has left on his contract, that isn't necessarily true I'd say. Plenty of examples of players who have hit their peak slightly later than usual a t 30-33.

I'd probably rather have Danny Griffin and Jamie Buchan back than those two too

If we're to achieve the club objectives of top 6 and cup challenges we need players in midfield that can hold a ball and distribute better than Butcher Pawlett and Harkes.

Butcher is limited, maybe will improve maybe not, but I think we can do a lot better.

What disappoints me is that we have spunked wage budget on Connolly *Clark and Pawlett that could be used to get a couple of top quality players in midfield.
