Hardy job was appointing managers, and making sure they are paid, which they were unlike macclesfield. ( who despite being unpaid, , and 7 points behind us when NA arrived stayed up - this shows NA incompetence, and you can not blame Hardy for that ) . The manager is totally responsible for matters on the field , if this was not the case, why have managers at all, when the chairman could just pick the team
So in your eyes Hardy failed miserably when he appointed Ardley? That was his job as you say and he failed clearly with that appointment.

It's also Hardy's job (decision), when he terminates managers contracts and by your earlier posts he failed when he sacked both Nolan and Kewell as both would have kept us up that season in your opinion.

Still 100% Ardley? 0% anyone else?

Can someone step in and help Davy out here please?

Davy - I understand your view on Ardley. But, with your logic, how can Hardy be blameless. By either not sticking with Nolan/Kewell or appointing Ardley, he’s accountable and therefore takes a share of the blame. Even if it’s 1%?

In terms of selling the club to credible owners. Had it not be for the intervention from other parties, he could of possibly sold to the bunch of crooks. However, he got the deal over the line and for that I’m grateful.

There was a rumour at the time that, that was his preferred option, as it would have realised him more money. You're right, Hardy must take some of the blame, if only for allowing his heart to rule his head and rush headlong into a bid to get promo, without a sniff of a plan, (other than throwing every penny he had into it), in place. IMO it would be fair to apportion the blame.

    Hardy 2%.

    Ardley 98%.

    How does that sound?

In my opinion, incredibly harsh on NA. But, that’s your opinion which I respect and you acknowledge that Hardy does share, albeit small, some of the blame.

    A little better than

    Hardy 0%

    Ardley 100%

Which as Elite said earlier "isn't talking sense" and I am in total agreement, 100%! Davy isn't talking sense as highlighted by KK and myself.

I remember breaking it down into percentages of blame way back when and I had Ardley less than 50% to blame, but he was still more to blame than anybody else. Hardy obviously 2nd biggest factor but Nolan, the players, the coaching staff and even the fans expectations played a part in what led to Ardley failing to turn it around.

We probably wouldn't have gone down however if we'd stuck with Nolan or Kewell. The players liked Nolan, so would have played for him enough to get the necessary points, Kewell left having taken us out of the drop zone. So that's why I focus on Ardley so much because he was the small margin of error that made the difference between finishing 21st or a few places higher.

If you reverse what happened and imagine Ardley had succeeded in steering Notts away from relegation, I would imagine he would have gotten the lion's share of the credit for it. So, the opposite must surely apply?

We wouldn't have been praising Hardy, that's for sure, or most of the players. It was all riding on Kewell, initially, to sort it out and once the job in hand had been withdrawn from him, it was down to Ardley to make the difference and he failed to deliver.

If the new owners and the fans had been told that we wouldn't go up with Ardley in 2019/20 and that we would never climb higher than 3rd with him in charge in the best part of two seasons, and that by the end of March 2021 even getting into the play offs was in the balance, I'm pretty sure nobody would have been up for keeping him on once the Reetz btos had got things under control.

Other clubs have looked on and seen what he's done here, that's why he's ended up at a club that virtually nobody had heard of until a few years ago and didn't even exist until 2006. Maybe he has learnt something from his time at Notts how not do things and wil be a success there, but that's absolutely no good to Notts County.

That's right Gump he would have. Praise in spite of Hardy's actions that season.

However if you are judging the season as a whole, as we should then, I believe we started the season as title favourites, if not second most likely to win the league. We ended 23rd and relegated, and NA came in with Notts in 23rd in late November and in the relegation zone. So your gotta be looking at a lot more than 2%. Ya get me?

Understand that logic, but this is why it may not apply.

    Had NA succeeded in avoiding relegation he would of done so despite;
    - a split dressing room, 3 groups
    - Hardy attempting to get Nolan back, which fed the above
    - Hardy responding to player pressure and relieving Kewell of his duties, this strengthened the players position that were against Ardley. They believed they could repeat the Kewell situation
Despite the above, NA would of succeeded and, rightfully so, taken a large portion of credit.

Whereas Hardy, didn’t do his best to support NA and therefore what credit did he deserve had Notts succeeded?
