Can anyone explain why we subbed Kane with Rashford but never changed tactics to play to Rashford's strengths?

Whenever I see Southgate's miserable mug after yet another motivation failure, I think back to Geoffrey Howe and the saying that being attacked by him was like being savaged by a dead sheep.
Southgate aside, the main difference between the two teams is that the Scots turn up as Scots first and footballers second. Our lot on the other hand couldn't give two sh*ts about it being "the auld enemy" and just turn up as footballers, if they bother to turn up at all. "Captain Kane" was being described on TV this morning as having "looked very tired". When I was in my twenties, if someone had paid me all that per week, I reckon I would not have turned up looking tired even if I'd just been shot!

The game was a classic of what we have seen with Notts in our time in the National League particularly this season at home under our previous manager. The team with the better quality players being outfought by a lesser quality opposition who have hunger, desire, energy, a high press and organisation in abundance.
Substitute Notts with England, Meadow Lane with Wembley and Scotland with any lower National League side and the resemblance was scarily uncanny.
Being set up to not lose the game rather than to win and “respect the point” is all well and good but I believe it sacrifices and stifles creative talent and attacking intent along with entertainment. The amount of slow sideways and backwards passing recycling the ball over and over on the halfway line keeping possession ultimately relies on the opposition to make a mistake or one moment of individual brilliance as we know and have seen for ourselves. Hence the low scoring wins when teams do win.
England will need to be more intense, creative and attack minded going forward if we are to progress in this tournament.
All true, and you can see it in a lot of teams that are so brainwashed to play that way that even when they are in desperate need of a goal in injury time, are still playing it back and forth across the defence, and back to the keeper. Several times this week we've seen that situation where the keeper is screaming at his defenders to launch the ball for one last try and the full-time whistle goes while they're still playing sideways and backwards.
