Given the current state of the draw, if England fcuk this up they should hang their head in shame. Honestly, while I don't think they are a brilliant side, I think they are going to go all the way...

I honestly thought they had won it last night with the hysteria after the match.I had to go and look at my wallchart and was surprised to see it was a last 16 game at home.

It's worse if you live down here mate - you should have seen them after they beat Sweden (!) in the World Cup QUARTER FINAL 3 years ago… lost their sh!t in BIG way.

It's hard to imagine what their reaction would be if they did actually win a tournament, which is why I had days provisionally booked off either side of the final so that I could escape to Scotland if they made it. Thankfully not required although I'm already having similar thoughts with this tournament.

Feel your pain PT_ Arab. Watched this game in a pub in Somerset and until England scored the regulars were moaning like phuck about the standard of play and slating Harry Kane. A few minutes later and they are all talking about winning the tournament and Kane is a hero.
During the game about half a dozen young guys in England shirts continued playing pool and didn't see the game. As soon as they heard England had went 2-0 up they are all dancing about singing that phucking awful song, footballs coming home - what passion!!!
The only other Scot in the pub turned up in an Argentina top - he's a Celtic supporting weegie. Have to admire his cheek (or stupidity).

Weegie or not, I think that’s funny as phuck! Anything to do with Diego gets them properly frothin’ and fizzin’.

The rest of what you say is bang on - they’re totally bipolar. First it’s ‘sack him’ and ‘drop them’ the next it’s suddenly ‘Coming Home’. Southgate actually gets that - I think he said post match something along the lines of that his starting line up would likely be unpopular and that if he got it wrong ‘he was dead’. Metaphorically of course (you would hope!) but he’s spot on. They were slavering over him after the match but if Mueller scores the sitter and Germany go on to win on pens then instead he’s a dead man walking. I find it hard to dislike him actually. He was about the only one post match reminding people that infact they’d just won phuck all and that there was a helluva lot of football still to be played as opposed to the triumphalism of the likes of ‘Wrighty’ and the utterly detestable Shearer.

If Ukraine pull off the unlikeliest of unlikely on Saturday this will prove one of St George’s Boys funniest ever tournaments - and there’s been a few.

It’s just annoying we have to be subject to it, i don’t tune in to Italy v Belgium to spend 40 minutes of match build up listening to talk about an England match. Tbf, when I was listening to Hartson and savage commentate on the welsh games I started to find myself rooting for their opponents.

Bumped into Savage once at a social event in Leicester and I can confirm the boy is a knob of the highest order. An absolute knut. It's hard to understand why BBC employ him but there you go.
