One last time, Tricky...it doesn’t matter how often you try and deflect. This isn’t about the opposition. This is about the GOVERNMENT...those actually in power.

After a very brief period of being called ‘the GOVERNMENT’S handling of a female advisor’s arse’ it is actually called ‘The GOVERNMENT’S handling of Covid’.
yes it is. But it is also, about politics as a whole matey. You only want to talk down the Tories due to your bias.
When talking about COVID, the bigger picture says- the Tories did the job.
The pillocks getting caught out, need dismissing, which I advocate for every MP, no matter what party.
There has been idiocy with COVID from Cummings to Gary Lineker, preaching what we must do, then ignoring it.
Another reason why I want these rules binning.

Before you go off on one about the rampant Indian strain. Let me point something out for you, that I learned last night.
Testing- We check 50% of tests for varients, so obviously new strains are detected.
Germany checks, 1.5% of tests? Yet Merkel then has the nerve to call for a ban on all Brits, as being the plague spreaders.
It now appears that over time, the screamers that Germany was the model for COVID heaven, was a load of bollox.

    anway.........
Its By election day. On current form, the government should get trounced.

Yet do you believe Labour will hold that seat?
What you keep deflecting is. No matter how bad this government is, the population has to vote for someone.
So give me an alternative, to handle covid/foreign policy/the economy ................. i'll get the kettle on.

Patel is useless. All mouth and bluster, with no results. Told my MP twice now, she needs sacking for incompetence.

    1. I don’t ‘go off on one’ about the Indian/Delta variant...I’ve simply pointed out that it’s a threat to the progress we’ve made. You can deny that if you like...but a better question, given the title of the thread, might be how it got a grip here.

    2. I’ve only ever congratulated the Government as far as delivery of the vaccine is concerned. They appear to have done a good job. Why do I only say ‘appear’? Because there are parts of the World, including the eastern USA, where the AZ vaccine is not recognised. We will see...I obviously hope the doubters are wrong.

    3. Like the ‘opposition’, what Germany does isn’t really relevant. Suffice it to say that there are more restrictions on Brits in terms of foreign travel than any other European nation. We also have that horrible position in the Covid league tables and there have been personnel disasters throughout from Johnson to Cummings to Hancock...aspects which actually are ‘on topic’.

    4. As regards Batley...I’d have thought the ‘Right’ had enough to be ashamed of in that part of the world from five years ago. Since then the elected Labour MP has gone on to become Mayor of West Yorkshire. No idea what will happen today. All I can say is that the arrival of attention seeking halfwits like George Galloway doesn’t help at all.

Germany is an example of how we have cut our own throats on the COVID headlines. We obviously declare everything by being more thorough. The Germans have obviously been coming across as a shining light, whilst testing and declaring less? German efficiancy it seems is not all it is portrayed.

Batley has a common interest for you. Galloway truly is a half wit, but he has put the cat among the pigeons, by bring "PALESTINE" into a local election. The Muslims love him and will turn away from Labour through it.

Now its a Labour seat, yet this is where the **** storm brewed by one of your own kin, a teacher got hung out to dry.
The school/council/unions/Labour party, all coughed and spluttered and did bugger all to defend this bloke.
The Muslim rabble descended on that school demanded his head on a plate and he's in hiding fearing his life.

So a bumbling government should get trounced, but won't because the opposition hasn't a clue how to capitalise on it.
What a sorry state of affairs this shows.

Tell you what, Tricky...you start a thread on ‘The competence of the Opposition’, the ‘The German handling of Covid’ or anything else so close to your heart and see what response you get.
I’ll stick to the topic thanks, ‘The Government’s handling of Covid’.

P.S. Incidentally...totally off topic again and I’ve never considered that sharing an occupation might be described as ‘kin’, but...sorry to spoil your narrative...the teacher wasn’t ‘hung out to dry’...he was suspended on full pay, found not guilty and reinstated. Whether he returned to the same school I don’t know.

If people are still thick enough to vote Tory after the shambles of Covid, Brexit and the stink of cronyism then my view is they get what they deserve!

I note Thicky still doesn't have answer as to what system he would have to replace the current one!

To be expected when self centred idiots stand with the aim of splitting the vote, MA.
Doesn’t change the fact that the Tories only won 34.3% of the vote and UKIP (what is the point) 0.4%.

Clutching at straws rA? The conservative vote was down 1.6%, labour down 7.4%. Come what may it was a case of labour losing still more support and clinging on, unlike a normal by election where the government historically losses votes / seats.

Yes Galloway split the vote with 8,300, but at the general election in 2019 the Heavy Woollen District Independents party split the Batley vote taking 6,500 votes too, as did the Brexit part with 1,700. So, "you do the math" - the "interference" of vote splitter parties was barely more at the by election than the 2019 election.

LibDems did well though, managed to retain their deposit, unlike the "Rejoin the Eu" party which garnered 75 votes!! Greens didnt even put up a candidate.

Anyway its good that you are pleased with a slight loss of vote by the government and can take heart from the demise of UKIP. Personally I'd be more concerned with the continued inability of the conventional opposition parties to succeed - especially when Galloway seemingly easily gained such a share of the vote

Don’t recall suggesting I was ‘pleased’, GP. There are all sorts of issues in Batley, including silly complexities such as a fundamentalist inclined religious element objecting to a gay Labour candidate and and arrogant, attention seeking GG playing everyone off in his own inimitable way in the hope of personal betterment. So...I actually am quite glad that things went Labour’s way...long, long way to go, but at least Batley and Spen went better for Labour than Chesham and Amersham did for Johnson a couple of weeks ago.

Now...about the ‘Government’s handling of Covid’.............
