    Great bit of signing news.

I really like Edwards and think that with this signing we are sorted for defence (fingers crossed that Benji stays and signs an extension too).

A couple more signings of a Fuchs/Edwards standard and I may even start feel a bit more positive about our prospects for the new season.

Well done United. Thanks to Ryan Edwards.

I think we are going 352 or 532 whatever. CB line will prob look like Reynolds Edwards Mulgrew with K. Smith and Butcher filling in. Or hopefully only one of Reynolds and Mulgrew plays at same time? Still good options but wonder if Butcher may be away - who knows i like butch but not in same midfield as fuchs and harkes lol Fuchs is class and is 1st choice midfielder every time.

I hope its Edwards, Mulgrew and Smith. Noticeable in the two games so far that Butcher hasn't played in midfield. Thought Hoti looked good in the normal Butcher role last night which allowed Fuchs to get further forward.

In terms of balance and how TC wants to play, our best back 3 (in my eyes) is Edwards central, Mulgrew left, and one of K Smith and Neilson on the right. This allows the two wide centre backs to start the passes into the midfield.

If Edwards is out, you can stick Butcher, Connolly or Reynolds in there throughout the season. But I feel we need to try and stay close to the Smith/Neilson on the right with Edwards central and Mulgrew left.

Even if Mulgrew was out, why not stick. Neilson on the right, Edwards central and K Smith on the left?? Reynolds showed last night he isnt good enough on the deck consistently enough to have an impact on this team (he did, however, play some nice passes last night that led to goals). That is not to say I dont rate him as a centre back, I do. But in this system you need ball players either side of a monster in the back 3.

We certainly have an exciting list of youngsters, which i didnt feel like we had last year. Maybe just needed to loans etc Freeman looks the biz even against lower opposition and we still have Glass and Chalmers (who i rate highly) to come in. Yup we wont be challenging for europe most likely and it could all go wrong with youngsters but i think Top Cat will be selective and rotate with experience beside them. Another 2 or 3 signing apparently. Best thing about pre season or cup as it is now is that Shanks is smiling, folk seem happy - well maybe not Alexander but who knows whats happening there really.

i thought we would fight out a 1-1 or maybe 2-1 boring turgid game after Elgin scored. Was a joy to watch both flanks going and midfield that could pass forward pressing (as elgin impressed me with their fitness and pressing too). One part was Smith did look a bit niave at times so im not sure he will be a regular. Then who am i to say

agree to most of that but thought reynolds passing was good at times. However i feel he is not a first choice anymore. Maybe he will go to cove in january once connolly is back.

I wonder if Connolly's injury and Edwards possibly leaving is why Reynolds stuck around. Now with Edwards having a new contract he might head up to Cove now. I don't think losing Reynolds would leave us short at centre half now
