Biesla has taken us from championship mid table mediocrity to a team which will hopefully contest European places next season.
If he doesn't think the youngsters have made the grade to be in 1st team, I would assume he knows what he is on about.
The youngsters are signed based on potential, Leeds give them the opportunity to develop further and if they dont make the grade, then they haven't developed as hoped for.
I don't really see an issue here.
Leeds may give them development opportunity but precious little opportunity to break into the senior side. As has been said in this thread and others, the only reason Meslier is now our No. 1 keeper is because Koko got himself banned, and the only reason Struijk is there is because of injuries/suspensions to players he was able to play as substitute for and impress whilst doing so.
Bielsa wouldn't have played either consistently had he not been forced to. His previous selections in the face of poor performance, particularly from Koko, show that.
"Worked miracles with the CURRENT squad", precisely.
We have all seen the innumerable updates from the club about this young player and that young player joining us, but over the last three seasons two of that "junior" cohort have made regular appearances in the 1st team. What about the rest?
We have just finished a better than most expected season and you now find something else to moan about... not playing enough youth.... The first team squad to a player played above themselves in almost every game, but what , just drop players and put in youth for the sake of it? If Bielsa is so against youth why was he happy to keep with Meslier?
You do realise that one of Leeds short term aims/signings was to achieve Category A for the academy, which they did last season.
As I've mentioned before this now prevents A rated clubs coming in with (usually) derogatory offers and Leeds being obliged to sell them, as we are deemed just as good for the players development. It's an intrinsic part of a brilliant plan to organically grow LUFC.
All those top young players running round at Euros, were from A rated academy's... we too will now be able to attract even better youth signings... the standards expected of all Leeds teams continues to rise... we had at least 5 players 21 or under regularly part of the first team last season
And however good they are, if the first team is again performing above expectation, the younger players trying to break in, will have to wait their time.. as should be the case... If your playing well (and we did for most of last season) you shouldn't get dropped unless you get injured.
