Yep. If we had adopted a different strategy we could be signing players of that calibre.
We should have cleared the decks over the last 2 years, saved the wages of about 5 or 6 players, allowing us to bring in 2 or 3 top quality players to complement the youth now breaking through.

Who said United will just sign kids to sell on?
I've never seen anyone post that. Ever.

Think chick implied it when he said utd would not sign stewart because he was 31 and they could not sell him on.You may have missed that post from him but you did comment on it.This is not a dig at chick can see what he was saying.

Leftfield question for you weegie, (and Chick) just out of interest, assuming we had shown interest in Luke McCowan why do you think he opted to sign for Dundee?
The reason I ask is that we were linked with him in the press. Taking my Tangerine specs off I'm still thinking if I'm Luke McCowan I sign for United.

    Potential answers
We were never in for him
We were in for him but Dundee offered more wages
We offered the same wages but fan nayed about
He had a soft spot for the Fun
Shankland who played with him talked him out of signing for us

I never saw that much of him but when I did I felt he was the type of player we should be after. Always felt that was a bit of a mystery, why would you want to play every second week at that rundown shambles of a stadium?

This is you twisting stuff again. He never said that. He only said that he would not have a sell on value.

So I'll ask you again, where has anyone said as you claim "that United will only sign KIDS to sell on".

No one has ever said that.

To add. We will buy PLAYERS with sell on potential. No one has ever said as you claimed posters are saying we only buy KIDS to sell on.

I wasnt trying to imply that we are only looking to sign kids as there is so much more to the Academy side than i realised myself. If ive picked it up right in the case of players, they are either brought in with an eye to making money, or there is something else they can bring to that cause. That something else may be a mentor, or as a future head coach.

In Greg Stewart, he is a player i do like and think he can bring something to the playing side for 3/4 years, but he is too old to have a future sell on value. He has never struck me as the kind of player that would become a future head coach, where Mulgrew strikes me as the perfect candidate to become a head coach that comes through our ranks over time.

I did understand where you were coming from and hope you take this in the same spirit.

I do look at other teams and think he could do a job, but as soon as the game is done with i rarely remember them, so cant form an opinion on the lad in question.

I do though have suspicions that TA is playing the game at the request of former colleagues to hurry a move along, so in short, we were never in for him, or the guy who went to Hibs.

Dunno! The club said we weren't in for him but right now...if the club said it was raining outside, I would have to go outside and check.

its not even a case of players to make us great, its players who bring pace/width and/or a wee bit of creativity.

They dont need to be superstars, they dont need to be on thousands a week, they just need to be able to hit the byline and get crosses in, run at defenders etc, how many defenders do you watch that cannot handle players running at them? it happens all the time.
We shouldn't have let McMullan feel he had to leave to get game time for a start(well done MM, that was smart....) and then we'd be better off for a couple of those attributes.. Defo need a bit of pace and creativity, Scott fraser type central as previously highlighted
