Is this post supposed to be ironic?

You know that taking the knee protests in sport go back to 2016, right? Waay before George Floyd (who I assume you are referring to) was murdered by a Police Officer. Google Colin Kaepernick. He's the one that inspired this.

We've maybe hit a new NCM low.

Although admittedly a big NFL fan myself I honestly thought the vast majority of people knew the origin of this gesture.

When Colin Kaepernick started the powerful protest gesture during the national anthem prior to NFL games it made huge news this side of the Atlantic for a long period of time due to the impact, debate and emotion it stirred up in America.

I have less than zero interest in American Football but even I knew this (it was on the news all over the world at the time) and have been pointing it out on here for what seems like forever. It just doesn't suit their narrative to acknowledge this.

I don't think you needed the right or wrong bit !

So where would you put the barrier for extra-judicial execution of low-life scum ? Passing dud cheques ? Speeding ? Voting Tory ? Or any of the above if you have a black face ?

It wasn't on the news where I was, but I take your point that it originated with Kaepernick.

I think it's harsh to suggest everyone who associates the knee with BLM is in bad faith about this - it never really got any traction in the UK when Kaepernick was doing it, the moment it really went mainstream was as part of the BLM protests in 2020.

It never got traction? You've gotta be kidding??!?!?!

As Swale mentioned it was huge worldwide news at the time thanks mainly to the POTUS sensationalist comments back in 2016/17, such as suggesting "he should find himself a new country" or words to that effect following his kneeling during an anthem. It was all over UK news.

In fact the 45th President of the United States has been very vocal about his criticism of Kaepernick and the gesture making headlines across the world until just last year.

The thing that I find quite disturbing is that anyone on NCM who dares to think that, taking the knee is not the way forward in solving racism, is instantly seen as a racist. Much like anyone voting for Brexit was racist. It also seems to come from the supposedly better educated, (arrogant/patronising) people.
Just my opinion, other opinions are allowed as well.

Well that's not true. If it were true (or anywhere close) I'd be in total agreement that it was "disturbing" as you say.

But it isn't true, so it isn't disturbing IMHO.
