When a saw the heading a thought it wo Cole claiming a penalty.
Used to be the last boozer I went in before a match.
Especially when it went to a real ale boozer.
There is a real business opportunity for a proper real ale boozer outside of the interchange.
A sort of No. 7 but but with a bigger and better decor.
When a saw the heading a thought it wo Cole claiming a penalty.
It was half decent when it was Gatehouse pub.
Some characters got in the Dev when I first started going out .
Characters that are no longer with us unfortunately .
Put 10p in the Jukebox and Dancing Doris would strut her stuff .
Ill tell thi wat though , I called in many an evening on my way home from work because it opened at half five and had a pint whilst killing time for my bus .
Tha'd not be short of conversation in the Dev , ivery body would talk to thi .
That’s one of the beautiful things about Barnsley - people just strike up a conversation.
Where else does that happen like it does in Barnsley???
I often go in to town Friday dinner time ish and buy a Chronicle and sit in a cafe and read it.
It’s rare if I don’t have a conversation with a complete stranger.
Today wasn’t a complete stranger - a guy who also sits in the lower west stand - didn’t know him - but he’d seen me in there.
Sat int cafe having a cuppa and a chat about last season and this one coming up.
Same happens when I go into Tarn at night.
People just talk in Barnsley.
It’s great.
Careful Nudge--there's sum funny buggers abart.
For more years than I care to remember after every home game we'd head to that cafe on Kendray Street and have pie , chips n peas .
At 5.30pm we'd head for The Dev and have a pint or two whilst we waited for the Green Un to hit the news-stand outside the bus station .
Back in the Dev for a couple more whilst we caught up with the days football results .
Usual Headlines would be
OWLS OUTCLASSED
BLADES BATTERED
Reds , Millers , Spirites win .
We'd head in to the usual tarn boozers about 8 for our Saturday night .
South Yorkshireman , N0.7 , White Hart , Chennels , Corner Pin , Rose n Thistle and Shakespeare .
Not a care in the world and still change out of £15 , match , snap and beer plus fags .
Sad to see the Dev become rubble but the memories never die .
Just read ont sister site ……. new real ale boozer opening soon - in what used to be MC Mills place up Lower Castlereagh Street.
That’s big big news as far as I’m concerned - at long last it seems wi gunner get a reight boozer.
Outside of building looks like an owd garage - but who cares as long as it’s ok inside and they have some good stuff on tap.
Going to have a walk up theer tomorrow before the game to see how it’s developing.
