I am afraid that you are deluded if you think that politicians realise that they are our servants tasked with doing our bidding. You could add council employees to that list.
They are only interested in themselves and have no interest in the people who ultimately pay their wages.

They do think about us when they want to get reelected. Would not put council employees in the same category. Any dealings I have had with council officers have been very encouraging and not in the least self interested.

When I worked in a bank we served our customers otherwise we would have been out of a job.
No matter how incompetent politicians and council employees are nothing is done about it. They are ‘fireproof’.

Politicians only think about us when there is an election in the offing. The Argyll and Bute Council bosses and Councillors are worse than useless.
I recently contacted my Councillor on Islay about our Mail being delivered at 7pm (19.00) by our postie. We have three councillors in the Kintyre and the islands ward and he is the best of a bad bunch. My councillor replied that he did not think that he was qualified to raise my concerns about the continual late delivery of our mail at 7pm in the evening. I said that if he could not deal with it then he should pass my concerns to the Chief Executive of Argyll and Bute Council to get this problem sorted once and for all.
Last June 2021 one part of Islay did not have their mail delivered for a week due to a lack of posties. However the Ileachs never complain about anything until it is too late.
My councillor came to his senses and submitted my complaint to Royal Mail via the Members secretaries section of Argyll and Bute Council. Last week I received a reply to my complaint from Royal Mail which basically was a waste of time as they have not resolved my complaint. They said that the reason for my Mail being delivered at 7pm last June was due to a shortage of posties due to annual leave.
Last week our Mail is still being delivered at 7pm so that reply was a lot of rubbish.
I do not understand why my postie continues working for the Royal Mail when he is getting home from his work after 7.30pm every day. It must be soul destroying.
In hindsight I should have dealt with the organ grinder and not the monkey.
I should have sent my complaint to the Chief Executive of Royal Mail to get the matter resolved.
The reason that our Mail is being delivered at 7pm is because the Royal Mail have the contract to deliver Amazon parcels on Islay with the posties having to deliver the parcels along with the letters.
Every morning three vans full of parcels from Amazon are coming off the morning sailing at 9.10am thanks to the Ileachs gong daft ordering goods from Amazon.
If the Royal Mail bosses had any sense they would have a separate parcels delivery on Islay with the delivery of letters being carried out separately.
One of the joys of living life on the edge.
If there are any posties or former posties on this site I would be interested to know if they would put up with finishing their delivery round after 7pm every day.
My postie told me that one day last December he delivered our mail at 9.30pm (21.30) when we were on ‘holiday’ in Dundee.

I was thinking that you should look at the 7.30pm delivery time as you getting your mail 12 hours early. Power of positive thinking. Instead of thinking your post is 12 hours late just tell yourself it is actually 12 hours early! Simples!

    That’s different from wanting compensation.

Losing a loved one doesn’t have a price for me.

Those guilty of making the decisions should be brought to book if found to be negligent.

I can only thank you for this incredible insight into the worries and concerns that you face on a daily basis in your struggle to survive on Islay. Truly eye opening.
