I have to say based on his form the last couple of years or so, and his goal record as well, I would be far from convinced he is what we need. I suspect even Grant and Zahore have better stats in the Championship although I could be wrong.

However, I would love to see us take a punt with Daryl Dike. May be proven wrong but I do think he is an upgrade on what we have and a real presence upfront.

I hope we ain't in for Gray. Hardly a prolific goal scorer. But I would welcome getting Dyke. He looks a real handful and scores goals regularly. Good age too. Maybe loan with a clause to buy would be a good deal.

Look I am not going to have a go at Dwight Gayle and thought he was brilliant for us in the Championship.

But, we do need to be careful. He is 32 in October, only started 4 games last season for a poor Newcastle side, and got substituted in 3. He scored 1 goal, yes we know that, and did make 14 appearances as a sub, playing a total of 503 minutes in the whole season, that is less than 6 full games and just slightly more than Andy Carroll. His injury record is poor and he will cost a decent amount when you add on all the extras.

All I can say is I know many Newcastle fans and all of them would be happy to see him go if they can use the funds to get someone else in. Yes good for us but no superstar such as Regis, Astle or Taylor, and many others ahead of him.

Gayle had the best season of his career whilst playing for us scoring the most he’s ever scored in a season at his highest goals per game ratio.

He was also pretty much injury free.

I don’t think we’ll see him again though.

Agree with what you say, my view is that if fit he is the best option, not on a permanent basis but a loan to get us up

Gayle is history now. Dyke could be the future. Who knows.

I loved Gayle but your post makes good sense and bang on. Gayle could now become another Sturridge who cost us around 50 grand per minute played. We need a ruthless young hungry striker and would go with Dike or Delap.
We need a striker though like tomorrow!!!

I don't think that Grey is the answer - not a prolific goal scorer. I would be happy with Dike or Delap but given the choice I'd go for Dike. He's had experience of the division, scored goals and has played under Ismael. Basically, ticks all the boxes.
