I found this clip from Soccer AM of this classic song.

Back in 97 I had decided to leave a job I’d loved due to being managed by morons.

My boss refused to speak to me at a trade show in Brum at the NEC because he guessed I had my resignation letter inside my jacket pocket.

I was made to drive up the M1 to Wakefield a few days later to do the deed at which time that I was told I was “making the biggest mistake of my life!” By my boss.

Ah well.......I dispelled that thought and put it to bed within 6 months 🤣🤣

Anyway, on the journey back up the M1 I was excited for my future but sad at the mates I was leaving behind and thoughtful back to the things I’d achieved at Dunlop Sports.

This came on the Radio as I was approaching Leicester Services and as I drove the same stretch on Saturday night my mind drifted back to that day in 1997.

HI Mick , great track haven't heard it for years.
I had a strange twist of fate and handed my notice in ,which changed my life for the better for next 30 years.
I left the GPO ( now BT) when I was 23 for job offer with an Alarm company who offered me a company car and good wages.
Turned to be a wrong move always on call out.
One night I was out all night after doing a 8 hour day.
The rules was you had the next morning off to get some sleep.
Just got bed when I got to call to go out to to a tyre place in Walsall, by the hospital.
I was pi#ssed off , but got on with the job.
I was working on my ladders and dropped my wire cutters.
Then I heard a familiar voice, saying these are GPO wire cutters.
It was my old Gaffa, I told him about the night before and he said come back to the GPO.
I said nobody gets to come back after leaving, he said ring me later and I'll get your old job back.
That afternoon I got my old job back, start date in 2 weeks.
Went straight to the Alarm company and resigned.
If hadn't got that call that morning, I would never thought of trying to go back to the GPO.

I've always loved this tune. So much great music from the 90s. Loved the Charlatans among a good number of other acts from then too.

I remember the Charlatans from the 90’s but can’t say I was too fond of them.
