    Parent / Feeder Club

Now we all know there are clubs out there who act as feeder clubs for other teams. Whether it be formal or informal agreements to send loan players to a particular club for experience. Some of the top teams even have teams abroad as well as domestic due to the sheer amount of players they hoard.

Now, you guys have far far far more knowledge of the history of RUFC than me. Has this ever been something we have done? From say Sheff Utd (just because they're local) or any other club. Have we ever had a time where one club in particular would regularly send players down to us?

This doesn't mean becoming a dumping ground for players but it seems to me this could be a decent way to look at the loan market. Generally teams pick other teams local to them for obvious reasons but obviously we could try pick up a partnership with anyone.

We have to go way back the last time we bought a decent player from local clubs. We have had a couple of loans but 90s was the last decent one (thanks to Warnock). I'm struggling to think of many (any ) recently

Mattock and Wood who when they delivered have been good acquisitions for us. Woody is still doing so but, sadly Mattock is past it now and is too prone to injuries. Just wish Woody was 10 years younger and we were just signing him.

Quinn, Fanthom amongst others from the 60's. Many players passed between local clubs. Mostly youngsters from us to Sheffield, and older heads back to us. Of course, then there was a huge gulf between us and Blades/Owls.

Yeah I was thinking more of a team that purposely loans a few players to a certain team every season. Few years back Chelsea would loan a few guys to Vitesse in The Netherlands every season for example. Clubs in London probably do well from some other clubs there. I'm sure Wimbledon get loans from Brentford fairly frequently.

I didn't know if back in the day we had a spell where we had an agreement with a team specifically who would loan players to us each season. It seems a good approach but perhaps it is going out of favour now.

Yes we had a special relationship with our feeder club Silverwood Welfare ! With Danny Williams and others ! We let him work Saturday morning for them, and they let him play football for us on Saturday afternoon

Woody was playing for Charlton when we bought him. Not sure of mattock was a freeby. Think the last player we got from Wednesday was meguire though he could have been free. From blades I think was loan for Colan lavery

My bad indeed, he did come from Charlton but Coventry had him first before them from Wednesday. Mattock did come direct from Weds though via this lot:

    2007–2009 Leicester City 66 (1)
    2009–2012 West Bromwich Albion 29 (0)
    2011 → Sheffield United (loan) 13 (0)
    2011–2012 → Portsmouth (loan) 7 (0)
    2012 → Brighton & Hove Albion (loan) 15 (1)
    2012–2015 Sheffield Wednesday 57 (2)
    2015– Rotherham United
