My mate from Newcastle says Longstaff should be playing for Newcastle in front of Shelvey and Hayden. Says he has gone backwards under Bruce, says he likes to shoot when he’s around the box. Compared his tackling to Paul scholes and says he can sometimes get bullied off the ball as he’s short.

Surprised there's not more chat in here today with all the rumours flying around.

Saying Longstaff would be an excellent addition is an understatement.
Bates not getting a game in 2nd tier of Germany raises an eyebrow but willing to give him a chance, has to be a step in the right direction from our current CB pairing. 3 year contact is surprising although he's still at a good age.

I’ve got to think if we are bringing Longstaff in that we must be very close to doing a deal to sell Ferguson

Bates will be a typical signing for us as he has had two lengthy injuries in the last three years albeit not last season

Longstaff seems like an excellent signing for us on the face of it, given his pedigree. Don't know enough about him to know where he fits in, but hopefully he'll fill an attacking midfielder slot. Good to see Glass using his Newcastle links.

I remember Bates from his Hun days. No idea about what he's done since. 3 years is a fair old contract, so presumably Glass has seen something he's liked. Happy to wait and judge him on how he does.

I do still think McCrorie is shaping up as a centre back. He's clearly not there yet. But if Bates is OK, and Considine returns, then that starts to look like a pretty solid 4 options. And don't forget Devlin Still light at left back? Maybe the plan is to rotate MacKenzie and Hayes. But I'd like to see Hayes in midfield.

In the middle we've certainly plenty of bodies. Some will go out on loan I'm sure. If we get Hedges back and Longstaff has some creativity then that's starting to look a lot better.

Then we've 4 strikers, which seems like plenty, provided the quality is there. Risk is that neither Watkins nor JET are prolific but might not matter too much if we get goals from midfield.

So with a few days left to go in the window, I have to say I'm starting to feel a lot more optimistic.

Like majority ,I'm happy with these guys coming in.
Question remains, does this mean Ferguson and maybe Hedges leaving?

It would be really helpful to the club, and all clubs in Europe with leagues starting in August, if the transfer window "slammed" shut at the end of July. Being at the end of August only helps the bigger clubs.
