We live with bacterial and viral infections all the time and we build immunity via recovery from infection and vaccination, which as you rightly state reduce the effect of those infections.

Unlike Australia and New Zealand where vaccination has been slow and focus has been on containment, there are new lockdowns (statewide and/or national) almost weekly. With the population distribution and geography/topology initial efforts at containment may have made sense, but not once adequate numbers and quantities of vaccines became available. You are paying for the smug self-satisfaction that was generated by the success if those early, distinctly short-term gains.

Here with nearly 90% single and over 75% double vaccinated adults we have seen infection rates rise as almost all restrictions (including the general use of masks) have been lifted nationally but hospital admissions haven't followed as they did in the first two surges, neither thankfully have deaths. Will protection last forever? No. Does protection via the flu virus last forever? Equally no. Viruses mutate. I would rather live with a need for a regular vaccine booster than wearing masks

Read my post, I didn't say the rates weren't rising, I said they weren't following the trajectory of infection rates as they had previously, meaning the health service is unlikely to be overwhelmed and can continue to treat ALL patients, not just Covid-related matters.

I am sorry for the loss of your wife. I am 61 so I'm sure we share some similar generational experiences.

Because my wife was a nurse she received much better than average care and lived. It was in spite of the government and not because of it. A local pharmaceutical company developed a drug (regeneron) and she was in a study trial. of course, the CDC opposed it and called it quackery because the wrong political party was advocating it. Later it was used on Trump with great success. Not really any different than Ivecterim, steiods and even HCQ that seem to show promise as therapeutics. Much better than a ventilator. Let's face it... at the end of the day they don't really a cure or treatments that work. They want control and power. we enable them when we don't study and follow the issue but blindly follow their ridiculous tripe on masks and vaccines. at some point (like Sweden) we'll achieve herd Immunity like we do with all viruses that become endemic. It, along with it's mutations is with us to stay like the flu and colds.

Off topic but.... I think one of the great underlying pressure points on this virus is that many of us know deep down that CCP released this (whether accidental or intentional) and got off with no repercussions. They will release more as there were no ramifications and they trashed the free world economy with no impact on their power. It's just a modern version of Chamberlains "we have peace in our time". Their evil makes the Nazi's look like choir boys and they think in terms of hundreds and even thousands of years. Even the Nazi's and the Axis had some regard for human life (if you were the right ethnic group). They have none for anyone but the ruling CCP and they have co opted the rest of the world's leaders. With the demise of capitalism (warts and all), loss of free speech (warts and all) and religion/morality(warts and all) they have pretty much ensured world domination within our kids, or best case scenario, grandkids lifetime. Hong Kong last year, This year or next will be Taiwan and then they won't even pretend after that.

As a free world we were tested on this issue and we all took a bended knee to evil and the CCP. We were subjugated without so much as a whimper. We gave up countless freedoms and liberties all under the guise of "keeping us safe". Some of these freedoms were earned by the death of millions and millions defending us and sacrifices by entire countries. Many of us are either locked down or paralyzed with fear. An entire generation has lost 1-2 years of schooling at critical times in their lives that can never really be gained back. Some countries citizens are little different than prisoners except they are in their own home instead of a Jail. All over a kill rate of 1-2% worldwide. What happens when a virus with a kill rate over 25% (like bubonic) or they knock out the electric grid with an EMF device. They will have little qualm about doing this to us. A loss of a billion of their citizens means nothing to them.

Glad to hear your wife has recovered, and very much with you on the nonesense regarding masks etc and the inevitability of herd immunity (via vaccination and/or the infection itself), as being where we should be headed.

I don’t work as a scientist and never have said I do. You use the same tactics in all your arguments - use facts selectively or changing your position whilst calling into question the basis of the argument of others irrespective of what they say or what they use to support it.
