Well, it was better than I expected. Thought we played some decent stuff in the first half and I think we would have won the game if our shape hadn't been disrupted by the enforced changes. Second half we were too impatient again, firing it long, making poor decisions in possession but the substitutions broke the rhythm we had. They battered us for 20 odd minutes and we saw it out no problem.
Can't help feeling that's 2 points dropped and we could be sitting above the Sheep in 6th tonight. Pawlett has to score with the goal at his mercy, at the very least hit the target and ask the keeper. McNulty should be burying that one on one.
Carson - solid
Smith - also solid and reliable, hope he's ok
Edwards- absolute rock
Mulgrew- quietly efficient
McMann - my MOTM, brilliant display. This is the kind of player we should have been signing in the past.
Butcher - good game
Harkes - either he's had a word with himself while out and seeing others start, or TC has, but looking much better last couple of games.
Pawlett - his driving runs really troubled their defence, a better pass to Harkes in the box and we're 1-0 up.
Fuchs - everywhere as usual.
Niskanen - very promising first half, faded out a bit second half as the game changed, needs game time obviously.
McNulty - i wasn't convinced we should bring him back and I'm still not. Failing to replace Shankland is a disgrace and it's going to cost us points.
Levitt sub - did ok, I was hoping he'd be more creative, hopefully that's to come
Appere sub - ran the left side but struggled a bit to create anything.
A point away from home is never a disaster but 3 points nicked there wouldn't have been harsh on a very average St Mirren side.
Yes I feel 2 point dropped. But that feeling alone lets me know that there has been improvement.
General workmate was good, McNulty rate was much better but the actual involvement was still very lacking. His job is to be clinical and finish those chances.
Pawlett was doing less diving and stayed on his feet, but I don't think he can give 90 minutes of total commitment.
Harkes was great and a midfield that worked very very well. Moving to full back totally messed with the shape.
Aperre is a big boy and flannels around on the ground like a pansy, he should concentrate on staying up, using his size and driving forward. He cannot out jump anyone...
Our fitness attitude and work rate are first class, our high press works really well and we now look more compact and harder to break down as 4 instead of 5 at the back.
There are definite signs of improvement under Tam, but we still lack patience on the ball in midfield and sometimes make the wrong choices in possession. I'm hoping Levitt will become more influential and maybe the addition of Niskanen will help that too. But knocking up high balls to McNulty should result in a fine!
Any word on the injured defenders troops?,it does not bear thinking about going into the derby missing both of them.
