I'm pretty sure either Lancashire or Hampshire will win, so the best we can hope for is second place if Warwickshire fail to win, which I think is unlikely.

The two late wickets should still put us in a strong position, but this increasingly seems to be a meaningless game for who finishes third.

It looks that way, but all due to the crap carry over system from the qualifying games. We ended up with the most points from those matches, but started this series of games with one hand behing our backs. With a fairer way of carrying points forward, we would be well placed to top the group and make/wim the final. Whatever happens , Notts have unearthed some jewels this season.

It’s not a crap system. It’s the same as the World Cup where only the points accrued against the sides that qualify count. Notts CCC have no one to blame but themselves and knew the rules beforehand.

The County game is such a poor standard that it’s little wonder the Test team struggle. The number of teams being blown away is not good for the game. Es*** won their game yesterday having scored 170 themselves then blowing away Northants twice.A total of 96 overs bowled.

If 30 wickets fell in a day and a bit you would expect the pitch to come under scrutiny.
However Es*** are crowned Div 2 champions? Hmm!

Well, we were nearly thrown a lifeline there! When Lancs needed 2 runs with 1 wicket remaining, a tie with Hants was a genuine possibility. The pitch at Edgbaston looks a good one, so finishing second (and a place in the final for the Bob Willis Trophy) is still possible if Somerset bat out a draw and we don't bottle it against Yorkshire.

Notts78 it is a crap system if the side totalling the most points in a qualiying round do not gain some advantage in the final round. Nowt to do with Notts knowing the rules, and having only themselves to blame.

Job done at Trent Bridge, although I'm glad we weren't chasing another 50 or so. Now we have to see if Somerset can bat it out, though it's not looking too good at the moment.
