He was made an example of, absolutely.

I’m not sure why that’s an issue though. He posted something disgusting and deserved the punishment. It’s high profile and the blokes been an idiot.

I’m not normally one for supporting a sacrificial lamb approach, but racism in football is a disease and it’s about time we had some real action against it.

As BS said any racism is disgusting but it’s far worse in schools and on the street when kids and lone females get abuse. Far more of a concern than a highly paid footballer. Perhaps a judge should come down even harder than eight weeks in prison if a child or female get racially abused on the street. That would be appropriate and the main point of the thread.

Part of a sentencing decision would be around whether it acts as a deterrent. High profile decisions may make an impact in the whole of society. A random street case doesn’t even make the papers.

Well that’s complete and utter bollox then!! I would feel so sad for a kid who is racially abused which happens every day than some 30 grand a week footballer!! The kids life could be ruined but for sure Sawyers has thick shoulders being a male too and a very rich one at that!

Racism needs to be sorted in schools firstly where it’s a breeding ground and wrecks lives before a child even gets full confidence!

Oh those poor footballers! Going off topic but had joe public done what Grealish did - broke Covid rules - got totally off his face at a party and drove whilst totally intoxicated and played bumper cars they would be jailed. The only difference between Grealish and Lee Hughes was Hughes killed someone but Grealish got very lucky and didn’t!

Of course it needs fixing in schools, but you can’t just throw a kid in jail for 8 weeks can you? This was a man in his 50s who doesn’t have ignorance as an excuse.

I don’t get why you think that because footballers have money they’re immune from racist abuse. The money earned by a footballer is totally irrelevant to the racist issues black footballers endure.

The point was a kid or female would be more stressed and harassed for racial abuse than a grown male. It happens daily but nothing happens. Some footballers are complete
p ricks but are a law upon themselves ie the Grealish situation. Let’s solve the issues on the streets before footballers who are not exactly super role models to the kids who look up to them!

Don’t disagree with the sentence but then again every person who does the same thing should expect the same sentence. Who do footballers think they are?
