He was the first name on the team sheet for 2 years and we saw plenty of embarrassing capitulations during that time! Although none involved conceding four goals, I'll grant you that.
The idea used to be that you needed a solid spine in the team, we don't have that now.

We didn't last season or the season before. We still used to get overrun in midfield and still had issues defending set pieces!

The myth of Doyle as a tough-tackling midfield general for Notts is a strong one, mainly due to how good he was in his when he could still run, but also due to hype from lazy/fawning journos. The reality is he barely affected games from a defensive perspective, with some nice passes going forwards (among lots of misplaced ones too).

If anything we're missing a Mitch Rose type of player.

    .
Well put. And also agree with Optipez about Reeves. He wasn't a great defensive CM put took loads of responsibility by getting on the ball. It's maddening to me that we never had him in the role he's playing now in L2. He's been a miss and both him and Ellis provided extra leadership. Miller provided more attacking threat from LWB than others have from left wing this season.

Off which two have been missing during the past two games, I wonder if it's related that they are missing and we lose ?

Not at all it’s been coming for weeks yesterday result, I would go as far to say I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before with those two playing.

We might have been playing comparatively poorly , but we hadn't lost , we lose our main central defenders and keeper and we lose ,I think the connection is staring us in the face.

Exactly the point PTF66. I can't believe someone starts using clichés like "Needs a solid spine, but we don't have that now" when injury robs the manager of the goalkeeper and two or three key central defenders. Even Premier League Champions Liverpool found the same situation difficult.

So what did you think of Brennan and the new goal keepers performances yesterday?

Maybe we should adopt the recruitment policies of the mighty Dagenham, Altrincham and Boreham Wood. Mind boggling how we seem to get it wrong every year. Roll on May.
