Barney Ronay of the Grauniad, possibly currently the best football writer, makes this most salient point.
Homo***uality is punishable in Saudi Arabia by public whipping or chemical castration. How does this play out with Rainbow Laces day? Are we still against all forms of discrimination? Because it might start to look as though we don’t actually mean all this. How about the treatment of foreign workers? How about Protocols-of-the-Elders-of-Zion-level antisemitism? How exactly does that square with no room for racism?
Newcastle have made satire against the game quite impossible!

Good to see that at least Alan Shearer is putting the eithcal rights as a priority above his club rather than making a side comment about it towards the end of this......

I think we know the route...
Saudi GovT talks to tories, tories lean on Premier League...some horse-trading going on at the very highest levels and there's only so long the tories can say 'we'll see what we can do....' 'when the time's right, when that blows over, when that settles down....'

I hear your sarcasm and he's not going to criticise his new employees...Telegraph: "Alan Shearer set for role at Saudi-owned Newcastle United"

Absolutely agree but there is more than sarcasm there. This is someone who is taking money from the BBC who bend over backwards to be fair and inclusive and then uses their platform to say how great this is. There is a yawning ethical chasm there especially when you add the comment in your post. I had not seen that until now.

We are living in an era of woke capitalism in which companies pretend to care about social justice to sell products to people who pretend to hate capitalism.

I'm just glad they didn't buy Fword.
