Reason for the reduced capacity is because the flood defences running down Don Street were never completed in Covid lockdown. With the impending winter approaching, work is now finally taking place to install a new pumping station and a new flood barrier.
Due to a lot of external companies involved in the scheme, it was not possible to pull everyone together during last season when the stadium was closed. Work is currently ongoing by Don Street entrance/exit gates of the stadium and this is where the concern lies with crowd control and there not being enough exits available. The existing Don Street footbridge?? is also being replaced hence the delay.
Well, basically it's the Environment Agency that carries responsibility for the renovations to Holmes Tail Goit on Don Street. The council just carry responsibility for redirecting traffic etc.
The proposed new path for away fans is next to New York Way exit. They have started on the path by putting down foundations and eventually the path will go under the road (through an arch under Popeyes burger van) exiting at the other side in what is now the police station car park. It needed the police to give up part of their car park for the scheme to work. From there the path will continue to the rail station. Basically the away fans are separated from the home fans for the whole route route so it's a good idea.
Googletastic! Keep up the good work.
