Fantastic game and performance. Smiths back heel was a delight, and I was left needing two bottles of coke to repair my throat.
Anyone booing the players taking the knee is pathetic . Are they booing equality, or do they suppose RUFC players are supporting the militants that have sought to hijack the gesture? I hope neither. Thankfully these idiots are barely heard at all now. It serves no purpose and actually demonstrates hostility to our own team. Shame these reactionary idiots feel the need to turn up at all imo

You know what, keep this about the match

It was a great result yesterday, the performance we've been waiting for. After hammering Lincoln and destroying Crewe, but only picking up a point against each, it was felt that at some point soon everything would fall right and we'd get a result to match our efforts.
What made it even sweeter was that it was done against Danny and Nicky Cowley. Not that I have anything against either of them, I just recall the last time they were at NYS with Lincoln (again). We outplayed them for much of the game but they ended up winning 2-0, scoring from what felt like their only ventures into our half. One of the most frustrating games I've been to, so it felt good the brothers Cowley weren't able to old man us again for another 3 points against the grain.
The whole team were excellent yesterday, even Johansson had to do his bit at times but took charge of his area really well. Wiles, Smith and Rathbone, pure class. They all were though, it was a great team effort.
Pompey fans were excellent, I was sat fairly close to them and they made plenty of noise and contributed to a good atmosphere. One numpty got ejected, I think their own fans let the numpty know what they thought of him (unless the hostility was aimed at our stewards).
Looking forward to Tues night, although I won't be having a pint of Tetleys from the ground again! The one I had yesterday would have been better suited on a bag of chips!
Really enjoyed yesterday. Portsmouth were the better team for around 25 mins but once Rotherham got into their stride they run them over . Well done the players and staff.
I was in NYS quite early yesterday. Mattock and Bola were not in the squad but were out in training gear doing shuttle runs with a fitness coach.
Never noticed owt like that before. Is that standard practice?
Just watching last nights EFL. Ian Holloways view of the Pompey fans giving Smith some stick; “Don’t wake up the crocodile” PMSL![]()
A very enjoyable game, save for dead atmosphere in the east stand as usual.
Excellent support from Pompey. Their team disrupted us by playing a high line and pressing hard, exactly what we've done at times. They couldn't capitalise on their early game thankfully.
Smudge telling them to shut up and then turning around to show them his name really got them going bananas. Excellent. He even had a dig at the end of the game.
I'll tell you what though, despite our lack of depth our back line was superior to pompey. They couldn't cope with our midfield, Rathbone in particular..... And our front line punished then. They have Hurst FFS. To say they are / were a favourite for the top is a stretch our entire squad on the whole is clearly superior.
Barlaser, to be fair to him, was in a tricky situation and didn't have clear support from where he was... He tried to turn and got skinned. We shouldn't be doing that in that sort of area, it's always going to go badly. He was absolutely furious with himself when he gave it away and looked heartbroken when they scored.
He then nailed the delivery for wood redeeming himself.
Warne got everything spot on today. Cheo coming on forced them to adjust their defence and they subsequently collapsed.
Calling out fans for booing is disgusting. Fans may boo. I boo the knee as do many, many now stay quiet.
Miller at the end of the game was the only player to come over to a bunch of young fans desperate to get a handshake and then was class with supporters down the line. Great gesture.
I didn’t realise Smith used to play for Portsmouth. That’s what the ear cupping was about.
