He was sat in front of us in the Pavis stand today. So nice to see Mick again. Was a great servant for Notts. He was disappointed as Les Bradd was supposed to meet him and didn't. Les came to see him at half time and took him back to his seat. Stopped about 10 minutes with him and left him their. I asked Les if he's taking him back to the executive box and he said no and walked off. Awful treatment to a former coach/manager. Should've been treated better than that.
Great guy for us.
A true gent. Once gave me a short lift on the team bus when I was a match reporter.
On the day Walker was sacked, we were 3 points behind safety in the 2nd tier.
His successor averaged 0.86 PPG and left us 9 points adrift.
So there's definitely an argument to be made there that sacking Walker and replacing him with Slade was the worst and most costly mistake the club has ever made - seeing what it led to.
Of course Pavis can't be held responsible for what subsequent chairman did, but going down that season has proved to be an almighty turning point that takes on increasing significance by the year - 26 out of the top two tiers now and counting.
No guarantee that Walker would have kept us up, but it's hard to imagine he wouldn't have done a fair bit better than Slade did.
Note that Grimsby Town and Southend United were both in the 2nd tier with us that season Grimsby finished 10th, Southend 13th.
Luton (16th) and Tranmere (5th) were also at that level that season and have spent time in the 5th tier since.
Burnley went down with us, now an established Premier League outfit.

I agree with that. The bigger part of the mistake was taking on Russell Slade.
Interesting that from a managerial career point of view, I don't think Walker managed anywhere else while Slade has managed 840 games at 10 different teams.
I guess only Warnock would beat that.
He was sacked after an argument regarding on loan player Martin Khul who was on loan from Derby. He did a disgraceful tackle on a Barnsley at Barnsley after just a few minutes of kick off. Notts fans weren't happy as he let us all down, as he went down the tunnel Notts fans were shouting sheep sha&&er at him and he stuck 2 fingers up to the fans. Barnsley fans were applauding Notts fans. Well remembered event. Mick walker told Pavis he didn't want him which led to an argument and Mick got sack, but why Les didn't look after him is as far as i'm concerned unforgivable. And yes Mick was disappointed as he was supposed to be met at the gates.
