Shoe-in or shoo-in I believe are equally acceptable these days although I accept that shoo-in came first. Honest, you can't spit without someone telling you it's not spelled / spelt phlegm.
It's a case of gamekeeper turned poacher !

    2. Tyson Fury - Boxing
    3. Adam Peaty - Swimming
    4. Emma Raducanu - Tennis
    5. Raheem Stirling - Kick ball
    6. Dame Sarah Storey - Paralympic Cyclist

For me it's a toss up between Peaty and Raducanu.

Peaty has shown amazing strength and determination to ensure he has remained at the pinnacle of world swimming for the last few years and remains the only swimmer to have gone sub 57 seconds in the 100m Breaststroke.

Raducanu on the other hand is just a sensational story. At 19 she's got a long way to go before she can be mentioned amongst the world's best players but her journey to the fourth round at Wimbledon and then to win the US Open, as a qualifier without dropping a set was for me the one most spine tingling moment in British sport this year.

I'm edging towards Peaty though with Raducanu a very close second.
At the moment, Raducanu is a ‘one hit wonder’ she hasn’t done enough yet to prove herself to be at the pinnacle of her sport, Peaty has done that and so is a more worthy recipient however, my choice would be Tom Daley for his sheer determination to reach the top level in his sport.

My vote, without question, in the absence of Tyson Fury (his choice that the BBC chose to ignore), would be Emma Raducanu.

The title of the award is "Sports Personality of the YEAR". Don't they have separate awards to recognise lifetime achievements? If Raducanu is a "one hit wonder" then her achievement this year was all the more remarkable. The way she progressed through the tournament, not dropping a set, and steamrollering every opponent that came her way, was truly amazing. It was probably a "once in a lifetime" performance and she should not be discounted because she's a "new kid on the block".

My best sporting memories are those that were unexpected, and her performances over that fortnight rank with some of the best.

    The betting says:

    1. Raducanu
    2. Daley
    3. Fury

All a bit harsh on Adam Peaty, but I suppose swimming doesn't really grab the attention.
