Think Boris is winning. Some very weak comments from scientists trying to explain why deaths are not piling up, yet. Obvious answer is Omicron isn't as deadly for vaccinated people. Maybe things are turning your way, Deeranged and Rross?

Sturgeon is a bigger problem....and she will never give this up, her powers need to be removed and chased out of office.

She is now finding ways to lock people up without having to depend on Uk money.

More beds seem to be needed to deal with the backlog so perhaps a review of how wards are used.
Review of system of budgets. Say a team can do 3 hip ops in an 8 hour day. Could 2 teams be employed to do 6 ops a day in a shift system?

This covid crisis might end up being a catalyst for change.

I think if Westminster Parliament does not apply lockdown rules, it kind of puts her personally in a very difficult position. She is so much at the centre of Scottish policies she can't blame anyone for the decisions she has taken. The sums of money she can find in her budget, I imagine, will be completely insufficient to pay for a lockdown policy exclusively delivered in Scotland. She is on the record as saying she cannot pay for lockdowns in Scotland without the money coming as a consequence of Westminster needing the money for English lockdowns.
If Boris can get the medical proof that Omicron is not going to produce a tsunami of hospitalizations, he might be able to stand up to the medics who may have lost sight of what is really happening.
Somehow, as you point out, the medics and Sage seem to think that their reputations are more in need of protection than actually looking at the evidence. The experts have always said that they deal in facts. Perhaps they need to look at the facts and review their predictions.
Giving them the time to think again, without the possible figleaf of a full lockdown might give the Westminster Parliament the will to return democratic principles to the heart of decision making.

I had an operation at Fernbrae - was never even mentioned that I could go to Ninewells for it. I've known people to be sent from Ninewells to Fernbrae for ops, I've also know people sent from Ninewells to Foresterhill in Aberdeen or Glasgow Royal Infirmary for specialist treatment and don't see an issue with hospitals sharing specialist facilities between their patients; NHS or not NHS.

Earlier this year I was referred to Albyn in Aberdeen, my surgeon told me that Albyn had been taken over by the NHS during Covid and that he was only doing NHS work. Again, sharing of resources.

Surgeons, Anaesthetists, specialist doctors and nurses etc. do private work to supplement their salaries. I used to do homers to supplement my wages as do many other qualified tradespeople. Why shouldn't someone use the skills and qualifications they've worked hard to attain to supplement their salaries and improve their and their family's lives?

The proof is there bcram, it's always been there ....from the South African experience, to the low hospitalisations, to the flat lining death rate, to the 4 times as many tests to get less than a 50% increase in cases like for like against last year.

The evidence is there.

This country is in the process of a revolution.

People have to stop testing, stop complying and start to ridicule the people making the decisions......or they will continue, every winter, effecting more and more lives.....they cannot believe they are getting away with this.

Leeds fans, darts fans and dare I say Ant and ****ing Dec have a far bigger effect than they think.....politicians don't like ridicule.

I remember the anti Thatcher chants at the cup final sometime in the 80s a bit of brutalist industrialised chanting about sturgeon at the football would make her wince.....did she even ever come back to Scotland.

Keep politics out of sport and football I can hear you say but she has imposed herself on sport and into our lives, she deserves the Johnson treatment but I know Scots just don't seem to have the stomach for the fight.

And it's not even politics, it's her, she now believes it is her right to impose these restrictions, there must be plenty in the SNP who think she's as mad as a dab whose just his boiler suit shrunk in the wash.....but none will step forward.

Watching Nicola today and over the past few days it always seems she looks cheerier when giving us 'bad news'. She certainly did not look too glum telling us about the increase in restrictions and, in her opinion, hellish outlook for the future with Covid. Ach it's maybe my imagination but what I'm pretty sure of she looked right pissed off having to say that the Omicron variant might be less of a threat to health, quickly moving on to the effect the "vast increase in cases" will have on the NHS.

Oh and why is everything difficult, not easy with her; the number of times she says that in speeches is incredible. Oh and of course everything is 'important'. If anyone played that daft drinking game, where you have a drink when a commentator or pundit says one of their pet phrases, with wee Nic saying the word important they would end up in hospital with alcoholic poisoning

Agree with all of that she's loving it.

And I'm not letting weak Johnson off but she has more impact than him on our lives.

Sturgeon, the Welsh nutter, the NZ freak and the guy in charge of Victoria (I think) the worst of the worst.

The only good thing out of all of this is it's giving everyone a taster of what an independent Scotland may look and feel like.if the SNP were in power and maybe what we would get looking at the Welsh prat if labour were in power in an independent Scotland.

Donald Dewar, John Smith even Gordon Brown would never have acted in this cavalier manner.with people's lives.
