if consultants, surgeons and anaesthetists had to choose between NHS and private consultation how many do you think would opt for the NHS? They'd go where the money is and we'd be living in a country, like USA, where if you don't have adequate medical insurance you don't get treated.

As I said before 1000 cases where nobody's actually ill is are no worse than 100 cases where nobody's actually ill.

I see they already trying to suggest that sturgeons quick action has saved us from lockdown.....how much longer will these outright lies be tolerated.

The problem is Rross that people believe what they want to believe. Facts just don't move arguments nearly as much as we might wish. Somehow, having got acceptance that what you say is factually correct, the next stage is to get people to change their mind and join you.
When the person who is, IMO, wrong happens to be Nicola Sturgeon it is really difficult. Football fans chanting Nicola Out might actually be an effective way to question her actions. To get politicians to change their tune the only thing that works quickly is to have a change of leader. Being deeply unpopular, to the extent that the leader might cause their party to lose seats is a regular route to a change.
Boris isn't really in danger because, IMO, nobody in their right mind would want the job at the moment. If he keeps his nerve, genuinely ramps up the booster programme and shoots down the hype about covid being driven by the medical experts he might surprise us all and rapidly unwind the curbs on parliamentary democracy that have you so worried.
I think it might be interesting to explain what legislation needs to be repealed to return democratic control to Parliament. I am sorry ai don't know what regulations need to be repealed but perhaps identifying them might be better than banging on about how democracy is dead.

I'm pretty sure the 3 Acts in question are public health Act 1984, civil contingencies Act 2004 (I think) and the coronovirus Act 2020.

In England I don't think they have used civil contingencies and I think all Sturgeons dik tats have fallen under public health act.

They ain't gonna repeal or amend the public health act so unless these powers are taken out of Sturgeons remit she will all have the power to reimpose

They may repeal the COVID act but I don't think any of Scotland's restrictions have been invoked under that act .....I may be wrong on that......Islay usually has the patience to delve a bit deeper but that's my understanding.....not for the 1st time I hope I'm wrong.

Yesterday there was a ‘have your say’ on a topic on the BBC Scotland news website about the stupid new rules introduced by Nippy.
By 5pm there were 3068 posts listed on the website with nearly everyone posting that Nippy has no interest in Scotland only in herself. A number of posters stated that Nippy should resign as First Minister as she is only interested in independence.
Another poster highlighted that the Scottish local authorities are receiving a reduction of £371 million in the next year’s financial budget whilst the Scottish Government Constitution department is receiving £350 million. This proves that Nippy and useless Kate Forbes are ‘hell bent’ on independence for Scotland at the expense of council tax payers throughout Scotland.

I know nothing about the Public Health Act 1984, Civil Contingencies Act 2004 and Coronavirus Act 2020 but if they have been passed onto the statue book by the Westminster Government then Nippy and the rest of her useless MSPs cannot alter it to suit their own agenda.
The Scottish Government is only responsible for devolved matters at Holyrood namely Health, Education, Justice and Transport and since May 2007 the SNP have managed to make a hash of all these devolved matters.
Over three years ago the SNP controlled Scottish Government were given more welfare powers but Michael Russell SNP MSP for Argyll and Bute admitted at least two years ago when a panellist on the BBC Question Time programme that the Scottish Government cannot use these extra welfare powers because they are too expensive to use.
How Nippy can think that Scotland is capable of becoming an independent country when her Scottish Government will not use extra welfare powers they have been given by the Westminster Government national because they cost too much money is beyond me. The SNP MSPs have been ‘spoon fed’ by Westminster for too long and it is now time for them to stand up on their own feet and act like a Parliament not just a bunch of ‘jumped town councillors’ who complain about everyone else. This is the real world not Brigadoon.

Looks like I've got Covid, bit of a temperature, shivering and sweating like bugger all in bed last night. Worst seems to have passed so if that's what Covid is it's nothing to us healthy folks. Mild flu.

A pal had exactly the same symptoms. HE DID a PCR test which came back negative! He is on the mend have caught the flu bug that is also infecting people.

Interesting point about local government being deprived of funds. In the old days it was quite normal for local councils to be run by independents or groups of councillors who did not take their political philosophy from the Westminster Government of the day. The Scots have forgotten the benefit of having local government which is interested in providing services which the local population need as against voting for local councillors whose allegiance is always to the Holyrood leadership. Maybe covid will make the voters think for themselves rather than follow an idea of independence that is so divisive?
