Covid is now an endemic and probably seasonal virus. So if we keep measuring we will see spikes of covid infections every winter. Most likely the virus will become decreasingly severe each year.

But case numbers, regardless of severity, are being used as a blanket justification for lockdowns/restrictions.

So where’s the logic that says this will stop any year soon?
    Great post.

A very good post, it has to be said.

What good is this actual lockdown going to do? Does Sturgeon actually believe the current restrictions are going to slow the spread at a time when millions of us have been gathering together indoors. I don't believe there's going to be any difference in the case numbers come the end of this three week period so what does she do? Impose more restrictions or just keep punishing those of us she's already punishing (as it's the easy thing to do) in the hope that her actions are justified at some point by lower case numbers? That imo just isn't going to happen. If we want to slow Omicron down it's a full lockdown or nothing, such is the rate and ease that it spreads. This partial pish we are in right now is far to convenient for those who are making the decisions.

Meanwhile, the Ally Pally is still rocking every day & night.

Agreed, we are where we are, and somehow with the resources we have we must make the best of it, let’s get through this winter; measuring health outcomes (Covid, cancer, mental health etc) is a good thing, and if we get a better educated population then there is a chance social care and health will get the resources required. This though is a post crisis discussion, I’ll be interested to see the figures across the uk in a weeks time

It's fairly common knowledge that he met with the Chief Medical Officer and a Chief Scientific Advisor to study Covid statistics at the start of the week. As a result of these discussions, a decision was made that the stats didn't merit further restrictions and thus, parliament didn't have to reconvene. Its not like he's gone awol.

I have always thought that its a complete waste of time and money putting in restrictions up here if you have a much bigger neighbour to the south living normally unless you restrict travel and close the border.
A perfect example of this is our game on Boxing Day,i would suggest that the 500 who attended would not have affected our Covid numbers so well done Jason and Nicola no further cases.
Two days later thousands of Scots are free to go to Ally Pally,New Year party's and nightclubs in England boosting their economy but returning to Scotland many having picked up Covid so honestly what the phuck's the point?.
