1979......David Mills from Boro for £518k.
He was absolute garbage.
Callum Moreton of to Peterboro on loan according to reports
As someone who goes through the Tyne Tunnel regularly, although not as regularly as I did when I was working, I am reminded every time enter the Tunnel of his crash. Unfortunately he was driving when he had a head on crash with a bus coming the other way as he entered the Tunnel. His dad died at the scene and yes Davids face was so badly deformed that even his family didn’t recognise him. Must be incredibly difficult to accept that you were driving when your dad died in a car crash.
Ironically it couldn’t happen now as there are now two tunnels, going north on the original tunnel and south of the ‘new one’, both two lanes.
Interesting to look at our biggest transfers in:

When you see our top six of all time include Rondon, Grant, Chadli, Burke and Diangana ..... only decent buy was Rodriguez ... could explain why Lai is reluctant to put his hand in his pocket ... absolute muppets running transfers.
Made me wonder whatever happened to the Chinese player Zuning Zhang .... never appeared for the club and cost £6.5m .... very fishy
I have made similar points on several previous posts. My gripe with Lai isn’t his lack of investment but his lack of interest and just the way he ‘runs’ the club.
He obviously knows diddly squat about football and therefore relies upon the senior team below him. However he certainly seems to appoint muppets who don’t seem to be good enough for the roles they have and they are letting him down as well as us.
He still needs replacing though.
I totally agree that the players we are buying are not Premier league class, said that for quite sometime, under Bilic and before just look at the posts.
What I don’t see though is the owner deciding who we buy and who we don’t, at any club let alone ours, at that includes clubs where the owner is fully onboard and is a football person.
Without doubt in my mind anyway Lai isn’t the one deciding that Zahore, Robinson etc are value for money and good enough for our club that is down to others.
Would Ashworth have signed the players he did under Lai? I suspect he would but anyway all about opinions and the one we all probably agree on is FOL.
