To be fair we kept Hammill here after Wembley 2016 when the majority of our fans thowt he'd leave on a free. Having said that, I reckon Adam would av laiked for us on minimum wage with the adulation he received here and his clear love of the club.
It broke my heart but also enraged me when reading Redders book and the way he described leaving Oakwell cos they wouldn't give him parity in wages with the top earners. I know he was knocking on but at the end of the day he spent a further 2 seasons in the Premiership wi Charlton and Bradford. He was prepared to sacrifice laikin at the top level to help us try and get back up.
When he left we brought in Kevin Richardson who was with all due respect, way over the hill. We also brought in Robin Van De Laan who was a very good player but not in Redders class imo. Meks thi think- the transfer fees and wages that we paid Richardson and Van de Laan would've easily covered a Redders wage rise. The board fecked up monumentally wi that one I feel as they did by appointing Hendrie too hastily.
