I'm no tactician, so can someone explain the logic of bringing everyone back for corners/set pieces? It leaves us no way to get out and doesn't help with numbers because it just frees the opposition up to bring a extra man forward. Bolton were leaving a man up yesterday, which ties up two of ours.
I asked breckin about this at the start of the season. He said he's like me, old school and would leave one up but he recon's the statisticians say less goals are conceded with all the 10 players back. Who are we to argue about stats.

Lasterman, I've said it time and again and ironically yesterday to someone, where was the last time you saw Warne leave a man up front while we defend a set piece/corner?

By doing so any other team wouldn't leave a one on one they would have to bring two players back so, it lessens their threat of attack especially at corners. There was a perfect example of this yesterday, where Johansson collected a corner and looked up to throw it out to one of ours but there was no one there so he had to hold the ball and wait for them to push up field.

Come on Warne, leave Rathbone up front. Apart from Chio he's probably the second fastest at the club from a standing start. By all means leave the big men back and that includes Smudge but, be bold be brave and leave us an outlet at least.

Depends on whether or not you employ man to man or zonal systems.

Man to man you can leave a player upfield but with zonal you need all back to cover all of the spaces.

I think it was Wigan a few seasons ago leaving 2 up. Both were very quick and stood near the touchline. I don't recall them being effective as a outlet though it did leave more room for there keeper to catch more balls into the box. Saying that I think it was 1.3 so prob was effective

Nice to hear both ends of the ground making it a great atmosphere.
The black arts that players use only happen because we, the fans are quite happy to see our teams succeed with it.
What ever happens this season all made irrelevant to me when Mrs Jocks's name appeared in the memory list.
Obviously a very emotional day for you Jocks.
Take care, and good luck for 2022.

It was a great atmosphere and the pantomime villain (Bolton gk) did his job admirably in winding up the home crowd and building up the noise. I like to think that his antics ultimately gave the lads the extra little bit of impetus needed to inspire the winning goal

Never really got going that first half against a competitive, decent Bolton side.
Some negatives and plenty of positives.

Played far too deep that second half inviting Bolton to constantly attack, give Bolton some credit though and our backline defended well.

Smith back on track with two cracking goals, ( check out the second one ).
Not playing to full potential, winning 2-1, increasing the goal difference and back to top of the table....( For now ).
We looked better when Sadlier came on.

My MotM.......Shane Ferguson,...never stopped running, chasing, helping out in defence and what a lovely left foot.
Puts a very decent cross in 90% of the time, not bad for a player deemed over the hill by some.

Onwards and Upwards.....still all to play for.....U.T.M.

Richard Wood, let's put this to bed for once and for all for one poster in particular.
He is a Millers legend plain and simple, an example of everything that is right with modern football .
On the pitch he is playing the best football of his long career, a leader of men and an inspiration to our younger players, is he good enough for the championship? Probably not,but I'm sure he will be around for some time, inspiring and coaching future Millers defenders.
I'm sure most fans will agree with me.

Meanest defence and best goal difference in the league.

Let’s do what Bolton do and leave a player up when defending corners. That sounds like a plan. It ‘s patently working for them.

    Not.

Could do for us though. You'll never know until you try it as they say.
