    Singular.

    Sturgeon.
It's the 'Political I' (as opposed to the 'Royal We').
She's not making it up as she goes along, you don't get away with that, democracy not dictatorship.
She and her cabinet are advised by the country's wisest.
Singularising her provides an easier target.
It's the same as 'Boris has decided....'. I doubt if he's capable of deciding to go for a sh!te.

So who would you like in place of Queen Nic?

On a wider note I’d have no objection to any of these restrictions if they were voluntary. If someone doesn’t feel comfortable going to the football that’s fine, but to ban people from going to games is over the mark IMO.

The original argument was that you might pass the virus on directly or indirectly to a vulnerable person. That argument is gone now as a) the virus is everywhere so everyone will be exposed at some point and b) people who are vulnerable will be vaccinated and boosted and/or will have access to the new antiviral drugs, which appear to have an extremely high success rate.

So that changes things to everyone for themselves; you decide what level of vaxxing and restrictions you want based on how high the risk of covid appears to you.

Same as you can choose how many cigarettes to smoke, how much beer to drink and whether you want to play dangerous sports that might kill or injure you — maybe even making you a ‘burden’ on the NHS.
Trying to be a bit more positive that those with 2 and a booster(just got mine btw) are kept away from the worst of this and the anti-virals mop up more of the rest. TTT mentioned the other week that death rates are back to pre-covid normal and i hope they stay that way!

I think most people are now of the opinion that we should be permitted to live our lives as we see fit. We made the decision to not go to the footie between mid-December to Feb before Omicron was a thing and i also decided to keep to the 6 month booster limit having never knowingly caught this damn virus.

Always had the distinct feeling that, barring a few occasions, that Nic and her 2 medical advisors are speaking from the same hymn sheet, but Witty and Van are constantly watching what they say because Boris has ignored most of the advice.

Ive agreed with Nic n co on most of what has gone before, but with all the tools we have in place to fight this now, we really should be permitted to go about life as we can.

For football, i will go back to what i said before and only allow a home crowd into games, and if required, proof of vaccination as well. Same with other forms of entertainment, but i am biased as we have tickets booked for next month!

The problem is not Queen Nic herself, it’s the complete lack of opposition from within her party and from the opposing parties.

A functioning democracy requires challenge, opposing ideas and devils advocacy from the opposition and opposing factions within the party.

None of this is happening within the Scottish parliament.

The same is true down south- labour are not providing effective opposition. The major difference down there is that there is an opposing faction within the Tory party that is holding boris to task and that’s why they have fewer restrictions.

Up here there is only one voice in town. Whether it’s through dictatorship or syncophantic groupthink, both are as bad and as dangerous as each other.

In your opinion what benefit comes from barring unvaccinated people from football games - given that the vaccine does not prevent transmission?

It's an interesting point (the last one). We know covid is different in that you can spread it without any symptoms but is it unusual for a virus to be able to spread even from vaccinated people? Is this new? It seems to be and in combination with the first point it is the thing which gives politicians the fear.

That the vaccine doesn’t prevent transmission isn’t anything special about the virus, it’s a limitation of the vaccine itself.

Why we dogmatically accept and parrot this segregation of unvaccinated and vaccinated (eg unvaxxed can’t go to football games) is beyond me. It’s unfair and certainly not scientific.

It’s especially weird in light of modern day pushes for non discrimination and equality.

Yeah but this isn't a normal state of affairs with vaccines for other viruses is it?

This subject is well out of my area of expertise: video games and football. 🤪
