Notts County have shown an interest in Kidderminster Harriers captain and one of their FA Cup heroes, Sam Austin.
The Magpies, along with National League promotion-chasers Chesterfield, are both believed to be pursuing the attacking midfielder who has won rave reviews this season.
Nottinghamshire Live has been told that the Magpies had made a bid to sign Austin back in December.
But Harriers were keen to get their FA Cup run out of the way which ended today as they pushed West Ham all the way in the fourth round only to lose 2-1 after extra time.
It remains to be seen whether Notts make another attempt to sign Austin having already added Zak Brunt to their squad on loan from Championship side Sheffield United.
But Austin has plenty of admirers having been a standout performer for the National League North side who are in the thick of a promotion chase.
The 25-year-old, who signed a new contract at Kidderminster last February, began his career at Burton Albion, but it is with Harriers where he has flourished having made more than 150 appearances for the club.
Notts have shown a willingness to sign players from National League North with both Callum Roberts and Lewis Knight arriving from Blyth and Bradford Park Avenue respectively.
Roberts, in particular, has been a huge success and scored in the 2-1 defeat against Grimsby this afternoon which was his ninth goal of the season.

After today, we need Steve Austin in midfield more than Sam Austin.
Although Six Million Dollars might stretch our budget.
Last thing we need is another ‘creative’ midfielder who gets swallowed up. We need to change formation, get another striker, get an experienced hard man in the middle.
He was at Burton with Matt Palmer. Doesn't look like they played together much (mainly because Austin didn't get much first team football with Burton). But they'll definitely know each other.
Austin has been Kidderminster’s outstanding player this season, having played in a more attacking role than previously. He would be an asset to most sides in Leagues 1 and 2, never mind the National League.
But as they have a good chance of promotion this season, Kidderminster won’t want to sell. And as they will have banked a shed load of money from the cup run, they won’t need to.
Kidderminster’s performance yesterday was further proof that there are plenty of good players in the National League North (and presumably the National League South too). This is where Notts should be looking when they recruit. We’ve already found one such in Callum Roberts and may well have another in Lewis Knight if he can recover fully from injury. More of the same please.
